/me waits for lawyer feeding frenzy as Backbreaker players begin recreating and then "publicly distributing" trademarked images of all kinds.

Can't wait to see the X-men play the Power Rangers.

Art critique; so easy a caveman can do it.

Name that PlayStation Motion Controller!

I voted HandToy, because it sounds like a euphemism for penis, and I really want that to be officially associated with the PS3.

Hands-on: StarCraft II beta

Feb 19th 2010 4:15PM (Joystiq)
I for one am glad to see that they haven't messed with the fundamentals. Starcraft is considered by many to be the best RTS of all time. Its gameplay is timeless, as evidenced by the fact that tens of thousands of people still play it over a decade after release. Most games have a life span of 1 year or less. The fact that I can still fire up the original game and have fun playing it - even with the terrible graphics - is evidence to me that the gameplay does not need to a major overhaul.

If you have a formula that created one of the most critically acclaimed and long lasting games of all time, what exactly would motivate you to mess with that? I can't even count the number of potentially great games that have been ruined by developers trying to innovate where no innovation was needed. What ever happened to "if it aint broke, don't fix it."

Holy crap, I used to have that cash register.

"Let's face it -- they're just too steamed."

Really? That's the best you could do? Tell me, what was it like writing dialog for X-men 3?

The Force Unleashed PC requirements prompt trip to Tosche station

Well, we can rule out performance optimization as the reason for the PC release delay. Don't fool yourselves people, the game won't look any better on PC than it does on consoles. This is most likely going to be a bad port, with the spongey mouse response and graphical glitches common to any console game being released on PC for the sole purpose of milking a bit more money out of it.

D&D rolls with the changes, ported to Microsoft Surface

Uhh...if it's a screen, and it uses something (read: anything) to detect what's touching it, it's a touch screen.

D&D rolls with the changes, ported to Microsoft Surface

Exactly. The more computer interaction you put in D&D, the slower it plays. This is cool and all, but the virtual dice and the giant menu of attack options is completely unnecessary.

Infinity Ward responds to Modern Warfare 2 dedicated server petition

Don't let this PR bullsh*t fool you. IW's only reason for doing this is so that they can sell DLC after the game comes out. It's hard to do that if you have modders and mappers just giving DLC away for free.

I would be less insulted if their given reasons for this decision were even remotely legitimate, but "bifurcate the community"? "Prioritizing player experience above modders and tuners"? That's just laughable. First of all, the player community will always be split into hardcore and casual. Nothing they do can change that. If this matchmaking crap picks servers by skill level, then it only serves to grow that community divide. As for prioritizing the player experience, it has been my experience that a healthy modding and tuning community enhances a game more than any single developer ever could.

The unfortunate part is that people are still going to buy the game, and why should IW give a crap what you say if you're still handing them your money. Even if people actually didn't buy the game because of this, IW would just blame it on piracy because that's what brain dead developers/publishers do when they make a mistake that costs them sales.
