Hideo Kojima recalls Snatcher's heat-activated disk (what?)

It's funny, this story gets trotted out every time Kojima has a new announcement, since MGS 4. But no new announcement. Huh.

The beautiful death of a planet in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

@BrainZero In an alternate one. Minicons as I think you want them don't exist in the G1 timeline, only in the Unicron trilogy timeline. Yeah, there's like, six different Transformers universes, it gets kind of complex, even for the hardcore fans. Closest they get in G1 are the Power/Target/Headmasters, which won't be around for a LONG time.

Once, an opponent of mine swore that he only lost the match because his controller failed. No profanity, no questioning of my or any of my teammates' parentage... simply that his controller failed.

The red Kitana/Mileena is from when they were shooting the digital footage. The original costume was red so it would not interfere with the bluescreen process, and those red pictures leaked. Hence, Skarlet.

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon review: Shoot, shoot, shoot, end

Jul 7th 2011 3:36PM (Joystiq)
@JustinMcElroy First, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my comment.

Second, I'm not calling you a cranky old man, I'm simply wondering how it is you could have played the same game I'm playing and missed so much. Maybe you missed out on the co-op, maybe your AI teammates were especially slow in helping you, maybe you just don't like the genre of game. But rate it on its merits and its flaws, point out what it does right as well as what it does wrong. Maybe I'm asking too much, but when I offer my two cents on something I'm asked my opinion on, objectivity and balance tends to be important.

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon review: Shoot, shoot, shoot, end

This review baffles me. I get that the game is not everyone's cup of tea, just as some of us don't like Madden or racing games, but you've left out core concepts of the game, which make me wonder if you really played it at all. Your token lip service to the actual improvements of this game was nice and all, but I think you neglected to point out that nearly every weapon you get feels very different, not only from the other gun categories, but even from the weapons in its own category. Or how the four different classes each have a very different specialty, not only limited to basic traits, but more specialized, such as the big heavy soldier getting a giant AOE "oh crap" button, or the Jet trooper having to balance his flying around with his reloading as his guns all use the jetpack's energy.

I understand it's hard to get how a simple game can be fun when you're fighting the nosebleeds you must get so high up on that horse of yours, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a pure action game that doesn't take itself too seriously. This is not a 5-star game. It's a budget title aimed at fulfilling a simple desire for destructible environments, overwhelming enemy hordes, and the joy of finding loot. It's not Shakespeare, but not everything needs to be.

In summation, I can only come to the conclusion that we played two very different games, which is unfortunate, as the game I've been playing is quite fun. Cheesy story, sure, but told with a tongue so firmly planted in its cheek that I'm afraid it might come out the other side. Basic, simple gameplay, but only so that the mechanics don't get in the way of twitchy fun. There is plenty of room for games to be high art. There is also room for a game about blowing giant ants up with an implausibly powerful shoulder-mounted rocket launcher.
