Joystiq Asks: What features should MS spring for the Fall Update?

Oct 29th 2007 10:58PM (Joystiq)
Here's my list:

1) Audio Market Place
2) Live, Mouse, and keyboard support in XNA
3) Video playback with AVIO support.... ATI makes the graphics processor, I'm sure they can extend the library to MS... no?
4) I don't know if I care much about a full web browser but I would like an in-dash personalized User page that other users can visit...edit through Xbox.com
5) Online storage for Xbox Live to ferit away your Games, screens and other User gen content that. Xbox Live demo and games will actually point to Marketplace while other User content (less video and music) can be stored there. Even have space for content others can read.
6) Lower Live Subscription prices? (free... perhapses)
7) LOL... in-game micro-transaction that allow users to buy stuff from other users for MS Points (lol... i'd make a kiilling)!

Can't you just set your monitor to 1:1 pixel ratio?

Rumor: 360's IPTV features spotted in dashboard

Oct 27th 2007 1:11PM (Joystiq)
Let me throw this out there. Why do you think MS has pushed video market place. Why do you think MS has built an impressive library of on-demand asset and content-provider relationships. Did you know Microsoft sold servers that actually hosted IPTV to many content providers. Knowing all this, what do you think would be the next logical progression?

Rumor: 360's IPTV features spotted in dashboard

It makes me happy to see evidence that it's definately being worked on as they went all deep six on the information. Microsoft is really beginning to show maturity in this downloaded update space for the 360... they make a forecast months in advance and they deliver.... should this come out, it would be mark one of the most significant updates. Still, I wonder about pricing structure.

September NPD: Xbox 360 takes the lead, Halo 3 to thank

Moved some systems?!!!

SH*T!! 360 is seriously (to invent my own verbs) blueraying the PS3!! Over 3 to 1 ratio in moved hardware overall is definitely stating that hardware is moving and the whole "one year early" argument is loosing steam.

What a show!

Play WoW with your Xbox 360 controller (for some reason)

Oct 16th 2007 11:13PM (Joystiq)
As a long time PC gamer who just started console gaming two years ago, I think this is another example of how a little ubiquity doesn't hurt anyone. I gave up the show resistance to good ideas 2 years ago.

It's a fact that this isn't the most efficient way to play WOW but if you play it with the voracity that demands a keyboard and mouse then your probably too absorbed in other activities to give a rat's ass about PC-Console-Input superiority war anyways.

Joystiq review: The Eye of Judgment (PS3)

Oct 16th 2007 10:57AM (Joystiq)
The "(PS3)" mention in the title is hilarious. With the popularity of card games in other regions besides Japan and the PS3 market regions in other regions besides Japan, I can see why a person may confuse this as a multi-platform title. Keep your eyes on this console pusher people I tell ya! Tit's a recipe for success.

I'm so e'fing jaded :(

Halo 3 makes $300 million in one week

Oct 4th 2007 11:14AM (Joystiq)
Beleive it or not, Microsoft only paid $10 Million total for advertising. They did many co-marketing campaigns where people paid them to use the Halo traidmark. This is the reason they marketed it like a movie would be marketed. Hollywood has been doing this for years... it's great to see someone stepping up in the game's industry and showing games can be effectively marketed this way as well.

How effective? These are numbers we may not see until each company involved releases their investor's reports. Obviously Microsoft will benefit the most but think many hands will be washed in this waterfall of cash!!

I'm not sure MS can prevent people from leaving even after throwing ninja stars made of money at their vital spots. People will want to go on sabbaticals while others will want to pull a Gaffi. My key belief is that both Bungie and Halo will be sticking around with Microsoft because from Bungie's own accounts and other third party press visits, it seems like Microsoft treats them well. Hell, I personally know 2 people who work for Microsoft who are no-where near their Interactive Games division who love the company.

With all the money this company is making and the fact that most game companies offer some kind of bonus depending on a game's market performance, it may be more accurate to just state that many have finally achieved their financial goals in life and are retiring from the game's industry completely.
