iPhone devteam releases browser-based 4.x jailbreak

Aug 2nd 2010 11:28AM (TUAW.com)
As Mario said, you need MyWi 4.0.

To expand a bit, 4.0 is a $10 upgrade if you own the previous version. Normally I'm OK with paying for upgrades, but this is a BS version change, IMO. The added features have very little worth, and I can't simply stay at 3.X because the developer won't let it run on iOS 4... despite there being no technical obstacle for doing so.

Intelliborn hasn't even fixed the program icon for Retina displays. Lame, half-assed mandatory upgrade. I expected better from them.

iBooks 1.1 doesn't deliver what Apple promises

If you're looking for things in iBooks to criticize, how about an article covering Apple's incomplete implementation of the ePUB spec?

Sling offers app update for Windows phones that includes 3G streaming on AT&T

Jan 27th 2010 11:55AM (TUAW.com)
Just because Sling is bad doesn't mean that AT&T isn't ALSO bad. In this particular case, I'd place the blame equally on both parties for creating a flawed experience.

Problem is, AT&T has many more widespread (both in users affected and in quantity of problems) than Sling does, so it may *seem* like this is just another case of piling on to AT&T.

Sling offers app update for Windows phones that includes 3G streaming on AT&T

I have plenty of scorn to pass around, not just for AT&T but for Sling as well. It's preposterous that the SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPhone requires later versions of the SlingBox despite there being no hardware obstacle. (The original SlingBoxes worked in the beta.) Also, it's $0 on top of the cost of the SlingBox. Grumble grumble.

Pricing the tablet: How high can they go?

Jan 21st 2010 3:04PM (TUAW.com)
Not how I anticipated them going at all.

I'm thinking either there will be only one model (@$800), or there will be two models, one at $800, one at $1k. While both devices will have WiFi, the $1k model will have (amongst other differences) a WhisperNet-esque built-in 3g service. I'm going to go way out on a limb and say this will be provided through Sprint. (Sprint provided the original WhisperNet, and now that AT&T has taken over that responsibility, and after losing so many times over the past couple of years, they've got to be looking to make a splash.)

Apple to bring changes to retail stores

Oct 29th 2009 10:05AM (TUAW.com)
I like that they're ditching the rainbow of employee t-shirts. Black, light blue, dark blue, orange... enough. Black t-shirts. Done.

I also like that they're taking cash everywhere, though I don't understand how that's possible. Will every Apple Store employee have to keep loose change and singles on their person the whole day?

I don't like that Apple seems to be getting farther away from having registers in stores. Used to be that they all did, then only some did, and if I'm reading this properly it appears that they're axing the registers everywhere. I like being able to pay anywhere in the store, but the 'everyone is busy' factor can be really annoying. I want to pay for my stuff and leave, but there's nobody around to help me, and there's no queue for a register.

I like that they're finally ditching those goofy scanners they had been using.

Yes, I realize I'm nit-picking.

Hey, way to make that out-of-box experience smooth and easy! I was hoping I'd have to unwrap each individual part after pulling them from generic cardboard boxes! Awesome!

China Unicom wants iPhone, too?

Here's hoping that Apple doesn't release the iPhone as government-mandated free-speech-stifling crippleware like those guys at Google do for their products.
