Up until four months before Oblivion was originally supposed to come out, they repeatedly said that there was "no new Elder Scrolls game to talk about." They always play their cards close to their chest.
As for the MMO: He WAS joking when he said "there's always a chance." They've also stated repeatedly in the past that there will never be an Elder Scrolls MMO.
As someone who does exactly that, I can tell you that this is far from the truth. True, playing 40 hours of Bratz each week (if you're unlucky enough to be assigned to it) is no picnic, but it beats the hell out of working retail, believe me.
I'd also like to add that I fail to see how GIANT SOULLESS PUBLISHER MAKES LOTS OF MONEY FROM SHOVELWARE is in any way news. You might as well make an entry on how EA makes mediocre sports games that sell pretty well, or how Nintendo makes a lot of money.
Well if you'd paid attention to his Uncharted review you'd remember that he doesn't hate QTE's per se, he just hates them when they're shoved in as awkwardly as possible with no real relation to the rest of the game, like they were in Jericho. In God of War they're an integral part of gameplay and you're not punished with death if you don't get it exactly right on the first try.
As for him "losing his edge..." What? There's really not much of an axe for anyone to grind with God of War. It's a decent action game with an unbelievably violent main character and tons of gratuitous brutality. There's really not much else to it. No real extraneous bits, not too much emphasis on puzzles, etc. Just because his personal opinion isn't met with official fatwahs declared on him by Smashboards.com or whatever doesn't mean he's "slipping." He's been doing that PC Gamer column for a while now and that hasn't been declining.
Unless I'm mistaken, this game was called the "Oblivion killer" before its release, because many people (myself included) were unsatisfied with the overall experience of Oblivion (god DAMN that level scaling!)
If anything, these guys should be happy that it wasn't unfavorably compared to another lackluster, broken German RPG... Gothic 3. I was extremely disappointed with that game after the fantastic experience that Gothic 2 was, and Two Worlds paled in comparison even to that steaming pile of crap.
