Lost gets three more seasons

May 7th 2007 10:39AM (AOL TV)
Too bad it's not 108 episodes ... that'd be clever. I'd sacrifice 12 episodes to be clever.

Wait ... 4 + 8 + 108 = 120 ... OHHHH

Did Heroes curse The Watchmen?

Apr 28th 2007 8:39PM (AOL TV)
Though there are similarities in the general plot (rich, villainous once-hero causing destruction to bring about unity), the fundamentals of the ideas are so fundamental that it's hard to accuse them of plagiarism.

A character like Linderman and Ozymandius share similarities in their backstory, but there is also logic to the development of their characters. With that much money and power, having seen that much good will squandered, is it too far out of the realm of reality for either character to develop such a plot? Not particularly.

(SPOILERS Ahead!)

Also of note, and a note I find most important, is that when Hiro teleports five years into the future, you see a world where the plan has ultimately failed, and heroes are seen as terrorists and there is talk of genocide. If there was unity, it did not last long. In The Watchmen, we are to assume that, upon the successful launching of the plan, that unity was achieved.

So, my belief is that there are similar themes, but Heroes did not go out of its way to develop a plot that is outside the realm of believability. And if Zack Snyder were really pissed that a TV show and a movie shared plot elements, then he'd be ignorant to the reality that stories share elements all the frackin' time. Of course, there are no quotes from Snyder, so it's just the NYPost making editorial.

South Park: Make Love, Not Warcraft

I gotta make mention of our review at sister site Joystiq:

Patrick Curry's craziest game ideas

If you know nothing of life, know this: Minus the Bear is the greatest band on earth, and a treat to see live (I've had the pleasure twice in Atlanta -- both, unfortunately, short set). More than worth it.

Why games will always suck

Xavier (or shall I call you Professor X?),

We did separate blogger from journalist, but to be fair we do offer a jouranlistic service by reporting on news (and we were also at E3 giving impressions and news to many who could not attend). The critique seems rather unnecessary and puts us in a Catch-22: we are damned if we stick to our low points, but we are hypocritical if we try to rise above them.

And to gripe over long load times on the Xbox 360 version (as all PC games have been differentiated from technical glitches by the inital paragraphs) is a valid complaint: one cannot upgrade a 360 to make it load faster. That's the developer's fault.

Moore backtracks on back-compat comment

Let me ask you guys this -- had the community not raised an eyebrow at his "misconstrued" comment (we can debate the semantics between "concerned" and "care" all we want) ... would future BC updates be promised? I'm tending to think not as much.

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup: June 4 - 10, 2006

Jun 11th 2006 7:43PM (Joystiq)
Seger XIII --

At first, it was reccomendations/word of mouth, and then from links on those web sites, and lastly from people who leave comments on here, such as yourself. There is no master list (although, admittedly, there should be -- an ever-expanding list of game-related webcomics that I can run through every week so I make sure I don't miss any).

And I've been mulling over the issue of newer vs. more respected webcomics on the list,a nd I'm siding with pierski ... quality holds no popularity. If the comic is good, I'm going to put it on the list, regardless of its popularity. I'll probably start listing "honorable mentions" for webcomics that didn't make the list but just started out and could use some recognition, but the only factor for ending up on the poll -- and it's a silly poll that means very little -- is our personal opinion of the quality of the strip.

And anyone who says we always ignore Penny Arcade has a very, very, short memory -- and hopefully are not the same people who yelled at us a few weeks back for always including PA.

WSJ: Gamers find love in MMOs

Sorry, lackign cleverness, but you also lacked timing / a link. We had a coworker send us this in very early this morning and it just took awhile to get published. And they gave us a link to it.

Readers pick best webcomic (May 29 - June 3)

That's not a reason to start a comic, and if you lack passion then so, too, will your comics. You have to actually want to do one and show the reader that you have some commitment to your work. Only then will you accomplish anything with it.

Dont' sweat it, and I'm sorry for coming off as a jerk, too. But, I will give your comic its day in the sun; it's unfair of me to do so otherwise, especially considering your determination.
