GamePro magazine switching to quarterly schedule

Jul 31st 2011 4:35PM (Joystiq)
Another couple years and they'll all just be published by Future.

Then they'll just create a conglomeration mag called Games. It'll be Nintendo Power, OXM, PtOM, and PC Gamer all mixed into one 450 page mag, which will consist of 92% ads.

Next wave of EA game server shutdowns detailed

Feb 18th 2010 10:14AM (Joystiq)
It's a slippery slope for them. I've amassed a backcatalog of games over the past year thanks to some pretty sweet deals and clearances of a lot of games. Facebreakers for $5, LOTR Conquest for $7, and a whole lotta NFS goodness for likely less than $10-20 total. Games like Conquest are new to me....yet to be opened.

But by the time I get to it, it will be "expired". Games with expiration dates are the scary thing. Games shouldn't have this. There needs to be a system in place which will patch games with axed servers, and allow for self-hosting your own matches. Internet speeds are getting up to par these days to allow it without fear of massive lag for all involved.

At this rate, I stand to lose about a dozen titles functionality. Lucky for me I didn't buy these at normal MSRP pricing or release price. But that's still a lot of games i'm now probably going to sell off post-haste. It's likely also going to affect future purchases from EA or any other company willing to do this too soon to a title.

Swag Saturday: Gears of War Jacinto's Remnant [update]

The Ticker has always been so much fun for me. I always love playing a little game with myself where I try to hit a ticker I just melee'd into the air with a shotgun. Fun times.

Favorite COG would have to be Dizzy for lines such as "I got yer back like a buttcrack" among many others. Being from Alabama, I relate to Dizzy I suppose.

Anyone considering buying digital copies from this batch are quite foolish considering 90% of them can be had elsewhere much cheaper.

Engadget's recession antidote: win a Zivio Boom Wireless Headset!

That's one sexy BT headset.

And its my honest opinion that the bailouts never should have started. Capitalism is a Darwinian beast in its creation. The general idea was the better the company, the bigger. The bigger, the more money one could make. If a company started to mismanage funds however, they would soon see themselves out of the race with smaller companies eating up the leftover bits and taking the place of the other companies. Sadly since these bailouts remove the "survival of the fittest" portion of Capitalism, it basically means anyone who surpasses a certain point in size...as a company...will be guaranteed free money, or be absorbed into some sort of government entity.

In the end, the people still lose. Its just a matter of how soon.

Best of luck to all the people who acquire the rights to the unreleased properties.
