GameTap closing Atlanta office, focusing on newer PC titles

Oct 9th 2010 12:45PM (Joystiq)
@neibor

I see some big problems with not having customer support in the US. There is such a large time difference between Europe and the USA. This practically guarantees that it will take days to fix any problems. And how many members of your support staff are native english speakers, much less american english speakers? That will cause problems too.

And why are we reading this on Joystiq and not on the Gametap forums? Customer support has been bad for months and you can't even address these things with your paying customers? Very poor indeed.

Finally, I would not recommend buying any games from your service. It takes days to receive activation codes for games bought from Gametap. That defeats the entire purpose of downloading games. I might as well go to Best Buy to get the latest releases. And often times Best Buy is cheaper anyway.

GameTap errors caused by current tech, should be remedied by 'end of October'

@Agies

Ya, that was a heated issue a few years back. Gametap had a single (large) thread concerning it. I remember some people really downplayed the importance of 64 bit os's. Even after Vista made 64 bit os's mainstream.

@MonkeyShines

I was a long time subscriber at Gametap and was really sad to see it go down as bad as it has. It's interesting to see someone from the old days comment about what is happening there. I visit a lot of forums and it is too bad that I haven't seen any other of the old mods comment on what happened.

Getting rid of US employees! Damn, is this why nobody there can get any support?

Gunstar Heroes kicks off Sega Vintage Collection 2 on June 10

It couldn't be that hard to include Sonic 3 & Knuckles. It was in the last gen Sonic Collection as an unlockable game. Sega was just looking at a way to make more money. Why else would they keep including lame games like Flicky or Bonanza Bros. and not Gunstar Heroes?

Yea, and the third time will be when they release a HD version of the Wii!

Turner to sell GameTap, Time Warner reveals [update]

I've been a gold member for nearly a year and have no regrets. I would be disappointed if they close up. Hopefully someone who really wants to push the service buys them.

Wii hack zaps annoying health warning, region coding

Uh, it's your hardware. You bought it from Nintendo, they're not loaning it to you. Sure, they won't like it, but too bad. They can try to stop it the way Sony tried with they're continual firmware upgrades to the PSP, but Sony couldn't stop dedicated hackers and neither can Nintendo.

Mega Man 9 debut trailer, confirmed for XBLA and PSN

I love 2D games, and would like to see more of them. But I really don't care for this. What's the matter with crisp new 2D with old school gameplay? That would do more for "old school" 2D gaming than bringing back NES graphics.

VP says Gametap's troubles are 'greatly exaggerated'

Jul 3rd 2008 4:40PM (Joystiq)
The trouble with Steam or any digital download service is that you really don't own the games. If you can't re-sell something, then you don't really own it. I like Gametap because they are right upfront with game ownership. $60 a year is cheap and there are a lot more games than you can get on Steam. How much would it cost someone to own licenses for, lets say, 100 games? A whole lot more than using Gametap. And by the way I am a Steam user also.

Epic blows up digital distribution with Steam

If you don't like Steam it means you like to own what you purchase and not just get a license.
