Joyswag: Direct2Drive's 50+ $5 games for you, dear reader [update]

Oct 6th 2009 2:31PM (Joystiq)
I enjoy a lot of different game genres, but my favorite is definitely RPG. My favorite series is Final Fantasy, mostly because Final Fantasy on the NES is the first RPG that I really enjoyed and I have played every Final Fantasy that has been released since then, except XI.

Assessing the damage at 1UP [update]

Jan 7th 2009 1:45AM (Joystiq)
Saddest day in gaming journalism ever :(
I have looked forward to the 1up yours podcast every week for years. If UGO thinks the 1Up name means anything without the wonderful people behind it, they are sadly mistaken.

Good luck to all the 1Up staff.

Fine print: Super Stardust PSP missing 'plenty of modes'

Dec 9th 2008 4:49PM (Joystiq)
It plays great even without the second stick. I was very concerned that it would be difficult to control your shots using the buttons, but they pulled it off. If you tap rapidly on one of the buttons it causes your shots to spray out as if you were moving the stick back and forth, which works great. Also, the gold melter's direction is interpolated when you move from one button to the next so it feels like it has analog control even though it doesn't. If you push all four buttons at once with the gold melter it will twirl around you, which works great if you are surrounded by lots of asteroids or enemies. If you played Super Stardust HD you should be able to adjust to the new controls very quickly.

Fine print: Super Stardust PSP missing 'plenty of modes'

Super Stardust HD is one of my favorite shooters of all time so I did not hesitate to get Super Stardust Portable. They did an excellent job of porting the game, the graphics, sound and gameplay are all perfect. If you go to look at your high scores in the game it shows endless as one of the game modes, so I assumed it was unlockable after beating one of the other game modes. I am disappointed to hear it may not be in the game as endless is one of my favorite modes in Super Stardust HD.

Cool watch, but I wish the hands were part of the E-Ink display also.

Wii Warm Up: Problems and issues

Dec 27th 2007 9:27AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I bought a Wii last month with Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy. After about two weeks of use I started to see random colored pixels on the screen. The problem would get worse the longer I played a game. I have seen the exact same problem on my computer while playing games which turned out to be my graphics card overheating so I assume the same thing was happening with my Wii. I don't think the fan was working properly because I would feel for hot air coming out the back and I didn't feel anything.
A few days ago the problem went away and now I can feel warm air coming out the back, so I assume the fan was stuck, or there is a bad connection or something. I will probably have to send it to Nintendo to be fixed eventually, but I would like to finish Super Mario Galaxy first. Of all the new systems that are out I thought the Wii would be the last one to have an overheating problem.

Phosphor E Ink watch giveaway (part 1)

My current watch is a $20 Casio which gets the job done but is nothing special. Watches never last more than a year for me so I don't like to spend much on them. If I get an E-Ink watch I hope it is made well.
