Aug 30th 2008 5:59AM (Joystiq)Lets just take the sellig points for the PSP..
Internet > Granted much better than PSP-1000 but you cant even play Youtube on it.. But if its modded you can. Browser runs out of memory all the time.. Is it even using all the memory of the PSP-2000? Seriously doubt it, seems like the code is the same from PSP-1000..
Video > Completely useless. Need to convert my videos through some odd video coder just to get it running cause no one puts videos out anymore. Make it work with whats out there, not work just specially for the PSP..
Movies > Sad that UMD's died, but they were way overpriced and they deserved it. So what now??
Podcast > Doesn't read a majority of the feeds out there, and it only supports .xml files no .asp or anything thats dynamically generated. Awesome..
RSS > As mentioned before.. extremely limited RSS feed support. And what gives with only supporting file downloads, most RSS feeds are text based.. What gives.
Music > No major complaints here, does a great job at it. Used it a lot of times, and got longer play times than my old ipod.
Games ..> Already talked about it but lacks serious quality.
Now with the quick list of problems that exist, and the PSP has been out for a _very_ long time now.. You can't tell me that they need another version which will not solve any of these issues. And they are general selling points that Sony makes about the product and they are only SOFTWARE issues, and they cant even get that right.
I modded my PSP just so I could get some decent use out of it, but its a chore just to do that. Hell CPS1 and CPS2 have better games than most of the games on metacritic.. and they are emulators. I will say onething. the PSP is by far one of the best hand held emulation platforms created, thanks to the modding community, and a small part to sony just for making the hardware..
So you tell me why they need a new revision of the PSP hardware when its clear that they need some work on their Software.
Analyst: Blame Sony Japan for PSP slump
Aug 30th 2008 5:27AM (Joystiq)Look I wait at first when the PSP came out, mainly because it needed a lot of polish. When the second edition came out, I got that one. But its amazing how much Sony can drag their heels on a product and provide so little support for it. Hell, the underground community provides 10x the applications than what Sony ever has.
And now they go and pull an Apple ipod textbook tactic, just so they can prevent the device from getting hacked, but its pointless since the millions of PSPs out there they will do nothing about it.
They ask the community why people hack their PSPs.. Clearly when you say that you can get RSS feeds and the RSS feeds is gimped and is in serious need, but wait the underground community fixed already.. they wonder why??!!
Its pretty clear that Sony is completely out of touch with their userbase. And that is the main reason why I am dumping the product. I bought the PSP cause I wanted it to succeed, but after the incredible poor support they have offer for the device theres no point. I mean just provide more apps and have more than one person actually working on the PSP project..
