Move's cryptic Datura captured on video

Mar 16th 2012 4:37PM (Joystiq)
Is it just me, or did it look like there was lag between doing certain things with the controller and the hand on screen? Other games seemed much more responsive. Otherwise, this does seem much more like a tech demo than a game, but we'll see. Older adventure games were slower like this, and I'd play the hell out of those, so there's definitely potential! We'll see.

uhmm, it's Ellipsis, not ellipse. An ellipse is a shape. The plural of Ellipsis is Ellipses.

Don't call it a remake: Final Fantasy X is a 'remaster,' to be clear

Remaking 7 wouldn't be as impossible as people seem to think. Just look up on youtube the mods people do on the PC version. It looks much more awesome, and is built over the same game engine.

Video games will typically lose half their value within 12-18 months. Cars will lose half in more than 5 years. The amount of time spent with it is pretty irrelevant, since we're just waiting a short amount of time to play a game at half price. Besides, in basic spirit the analogy holds. Whether it be a piece of equipment or entertainment. Hell artwork is something created artistically for entertainment, and it's prices tend to go up over time. But games follow a similar trend as cars as far as depreciation goes. If they're good and worth it, they hold their value. If they suck, the depreciate very quickly. Complaining that a car needs parts and repairs and shit over time is just over-analyzing the analogy just to be pedantic. The spirit of it is all that people refer to, and it fits it in the basic sense just as well as anything else.

The real fact of the matter here is that complaining about this is pretty much irrelevant, since it'll all be digital soon anyways. Chances are, when that happens, there will be a spike in piracy until people just accept that the companies have us by the balls. Sad but true. We'll all miss these days where all we had to do was pay an extra 10 bucks on a used game to access all content, instead of always paying the premium price, which is what the future holds for us....

Not to bait the fanboys too much, but I must wonder just how much of the 360 console sales are due to rebuys after multiple RRODs.... I know quite a few people who have done that with hopes that newer boxes won't RR, since when you send it in for replacement you just get back refurbed hardware that's gonna just RR on you soon anyways. I barely play my 360, and I've replaced it twice. Friends of mine are on their 4th or 5th, many of which were re-buys. Just food for thought....

Homeland Security, FBI looking into PSN breach

Apr 29th 2011 8:36PM (Joystiq)
@OnToGloryReturns

Honestly man, if you are "in the field', then you'd know that if someone really wants in on a complex front end of offered services, then they WILL find a way. A service such as the PSN has so many variables and available services and devices, that any determined individual or group can eventually find a loophole, given enough time.

As far as security patching goes, they release patches when their engineers discover security holes or other code that is potentially viable for exploit. But the issue there is the same as you'll find in various other places. The more eyes looking into a problem, the more perspectives. They can only employ so many people to be proactive, but it's much more difficult to be proactive as opposed to reactive.

And regarding the "Sony didn't tell us" portion, everyone must realize that a large company like Sony must be 110% positive that a breech happened and data was stolen BEFORE saying a word. A big part of it is public image. If nothing was compromised or stolen, then they'd look like assholes for sending a message that they may have been hacked AND could possibly face legal action depending on the outcome of "crying wolf".

The internet if full of people who really think they know the world because they read wikipedia and some forums, but that does not make you "informed". And yes, we have become a zero tolerance society. We're also insatiable. Come out with an amazing device that will cure cancer people will bitch that it doesn't play mp3's or some shit like that. Come out with an amazing new product that has a few minor flaws, and everyone's on it that the company should have done better. Think you can do better? Become an engineer or inventor and think something up, but don't get up on your soapbox and profess your uninformed and erroneous opinion, it just makes you part of the problem.....and a jackass.

/end rant

PS3 firmware 3.60 is live with cloud saves ... oh, and hacker suggests PS3 is 're-secured'

@mywhitenoise

As a musician, let me let you in on a little industry secret. Yes, we don't get much from album sales. However, the record companies use those numbers when determining whether to sponsor a tour or not, and how much advertising money they wanna put into it. If your sales suck, you're not gonna be promoted to go on good tours and play good gigs.

Case and point, if everyone pirates your music and doesn't pay for it, you still suffer whether they attend the 1 or 2 shows you play or not. That's the unfortunate truth about it all. And if you feel that you're supporting an industry by pirating it, you're sadly mistaken. You're not only hurting the RIAA or the record companies, you ARE hurting the artists, you're just too naive or stupid to realize it. Being righteous about stealing what others put their hearts into to create doesn't make you an awesome appreciative lover of the industry, it just makes you a self-entitled elitist asshole. Get off the soap box before you hurt yourself.
