Rock Band Weekly: Rush '2112'

Dec 29th 2011 1:33AM (Joystiq)
@okayfrog Hundreds of dollars? The game is $20, the pack is $5.49. The Mustang Pro Guitar is down to $55 on Amazon, and any regular guitar can't be hard to find nowadays for a few bucks.

Driver into Madden? I barely know her.

PSA: Change your Gamertag on the cheap in this week's deal

Aug 2nd 2011 5:37PM (Joystiq)
I still think MS should make changing your gamertag free (if not mandatory) if you have any of the following;

xXx Name xXx
SoMeTh1nG LiKe Th1S
ALL CAPS
"420"
or if it contains the words Assassin, Sniper, or Elite.

Rock Band Weekly: R.E.M., System of a Down, Buffalo Springfield, The Vapors

Jul 1st 2011 10:17PM (Joystiq)
@docstrange

Yet another misinformed member of the music game society. I'll run down the basics for you.

Harmonix is a company. They run a business. Their objective is to make money. They are not non-profit. They are not a charity. Most of the time, they are releasing what they project will be profit-turning DLC. Occasionally you see something obscure or fairly unknown, but since the release of Rock Band 3, it's mostly been notable content. Indie bands don't sell. Period. Not when your other offerings usually include multi-platinum artists.

Also, the amount of songs released per week has decreased, as have the frequency of full albums. Harmonix is not as resourceful as they once were, and have fewer customers than in the past, so obviously quantity will decrease. They still average more than 5 songs a week, which is more than they did in their first year of DLC. No too bad, especially considering many tracks have pro guitar and bass, which takes a lot of work to chart.

And you say to many songs are offered to the party game crowd. You do realize this is a game suited for parties right? Why do you think they added in harmonies? The overshell? All instruments mode? Would you rather they release an audiobook as DLC or something? That certainly isn't party game music.

"Harmonix needs to figure out a way to help me enjoy MY favorite music in the game, instead of a selection of tunes that feels like a bunch of singles I'd hear on the radio."

You know why they release songs that are on the radio? Cause most people like songs on the radio! That's why they're on the radio!

You wanna hear YOUR kind of music in the game? Then join a band and play YOUR kind of music, and upload it to RBN. Problem solved.

In the meantime. Listen to more music. If what Rock Band has to offer doesn't interest you, then your tastes must be very limited.

Kinect Hacks: Mapping the world

Jan 23rd 2011 7:31PM (Joystiq)
It's always been one of my dreams to create a 3D environment of my city, for use in a videogame. But sadly I have neither the time or the talent (especially the talent) to do such a thing. The closest I ever got was the custom map editor in Far Cry 2. I made a pretty decent re-creation of a few blocks of my neighborhood, if it were in Africa.

It would be awesome to have a fully designed custom map editor with the engine of something like GTA IV.

Call of Duty: Black Ops campaign trailer to debut during Vikings vs Jets games

Oct 9th 2010 11:15PM (Joystiq)
Probably going to be one of the best games of the year.

The football game that is, not the copy-and-paste shooter.

Shouldn't they just call it Call of Duty '11?

Bang your head to the Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock 'Act 1' set list

Jul 8th 2010 10:28PM (Joystiq)
I laughed when they showed 3 characters harmonizing Bohemian Rhapsody, yet only one person is allowed to sing in the game.

Oh Activision. Your game isn't even out yet and it's already obsolete.

Jul 4th 2010 5:42PM (Joystiq)
Today is the 4th of July, discount these tracks now dammit!

I'm going to be too busy playing CCR on the sixth.
