Rock Band Weekly: R.E.M., System of a Down, Buffalo Springfield, The Vapors
Jul 1st 2011 10:17PM (Joystiq)Yet another misinformed member of the music game society. I'll run down the basics for you.
Harmonix is a company. They run a business. Their objective is to make money. They are not non-profit. They are not a charity. Most of the time, they are releasing what they project will be profit-turning DLC. Occasionally you see something obscure or fairly unknown, but since the release of Rock Band 3, it's mostly been notable content. Indie bands don't sell. Period. Not when your other offerings usually include multi-platinum artists.
Also, the amount of songs released per week has decreased, as have the frequency of full albums. Harmonix is not as resourceful as they once were, and have fewer customers than in the past, so obviously quantity will decrease. They still average more than 5 songs a week, which is more than they did in their first year of DLC. No too bad, especially considering many tracks have pro guitar and bass, which takes a lot of work to chart.
And you say to many songs are offered to the party game crowd. You do realize this is a game suited for parties right? Why do you think they added in harmonies? The overshell? All instruments mode? Would you rather they release an audiobook as DLC or something? That certainly isn't party game music.
"Harmonix needs to figure out a way to help me enjoy MY favorite music in the game, instead of a selection of tunes that feels like a bunch of singles I'd hear on the radio."
You know why they release songs that are on the radio? Cause most people like songs on the radio! That's why they're on the radio!
You wanna hear YOUR kind of music in the game? Then join a band and play YOUR kind of music, and upload it to RBN. Problem solved.
In the meantime. Listen to more music. If what Rock Band has to offer doesn't interest you, then your tastes must be very limited.
