Gearbox boss says impressive Wii U 'a really nice bridge' to the next generation

Nintendo is following the Wii strategy of some degree of graphical improvement over the last generation and some sort of "different" control to keep the price down. Although, we still don't know how low that price could be considering a screen included.

Sony confirms Zipper Interactive closure
Mar 31st 2012 5:35PM (Joystiq)It is just a matter of numbers- Zipper games likely didn't sell as well as expected compared to the investment of maintaining the infrastructure of the studio.
Sony confirms Zipper Interactive closure
Mar 31st 2012 5:28PM (Joystiq)I wouldn't be too sad. Just like happens in the gaming industry all the time Zipper may be gone but team members will either move on to other companies or they'll get together and put a new one of their own. Check Warhawk, first developed by Singletrac. Once that was closed many team members moved on to create Incognito and release Warhawk for the PS3. Dylan Jobe (and I believe a few others) then put together Lightbox Interactive which is coming out with Starhawk in May. The same will happen with Zipper..

Mar 31st 2012 5:19PM (Joystiq)Sony still owns the property, so a new game is more than likely to happen at some point down the line, just with a different developer (or, like was the case with Warhawk in 2007 and Starhawk now, same team members under a different company).
Current gen consoles 'can't cope' with traditional Total War
Mar 31st 2012 5:13PM (Joystiq)In terms of user interface a PS3 can use any USB mouse and keyboard out there if you want the same interface as a PC. Not only that but the Move has been shown over and over in demos about how it could be used as a mouse alternative for strategy games.
As for graphics, I believe this guy hasn't been looking around the industry much. Lair had hundreds of characters battling it out on screen at the same time and all decently detailed. Not only that but this was done back in 2007!
If this company really wanted to make this game for Xbox and PS3 they could find a way. Heck, they could even do it for the VIta if they have an IOS version. You even have more memory there.
There simply is no big enough market for this game on consoles to justify producing it.

Mar 27th 2012 1:39AM (Joystiq)Yeah... Silly, right...? By the way, how's your Hungarian? Why don't you sing us something in Russian right now?

Mar 27th 2012 1:37AM (Joystiq)Well, they are not the same. Kara was a real time tech demo to test out new technology that can be applied to games. What you have in mind for Dead Island was a pre- rendered trailer to promote the game and created by a company that was not the game developers.
Apples and Oranges.

Mar 27th 2012 1:35AM (Joystiq)Well, considering that Kara was ran on a PS3 hopefully we'll see it in a PS3 game.
Rumor: Sony shutting down SOCOM dev Zipper Interactive
Mar 24th 2012 2:00AM (Joystiq)In reality none of the recent games from Zipper were bad. MAG got something like an 8.5 in reviews I remember, Socom around a 7.5, and Unit 13 a 7. The problem is that none had anything unique to make them stand out among the crowd of so many similar games out there.
MAG is one of my favorite games on the console and sold well enough to become a Greatest Hit, but the real hook of it is the 256 player matches. Without enough people playing to reach that cap many couldn't experience it. Part of the reason was the the game received no support for like 11 months following the launch. Had there been more continuous support for it (adding modes, bringing tournaments between factions and individual teams, etc) it would have extended the life of that game.
Considering the number of first party developers Sony has, Zipper seemed like the likely candidate for a cut, not because the studio was bad but because, among a crop of AAA first party developer, it had been falling behind in a way.
But, if these rumors are true, most likely it will happen what always does: some of the people from Zipper will open one or more smaller studios and new games from the same talent will come out.
