Metareview -- Wii Fit

May 20th 2008 9:12AM (Joystiq)
Scam.

Wii could surpass US Xbox 360 install base this month

Wii Fit just got the shaft on GameSpot: 7.0.

I hope there's a mini-game that involves grabbing your ankles, because you suckers are going to need it.

The poor attach rate for Mario Kart Wii indicates casuals aren't buying games. EA's financial report also supports that.

Nintendo's mistakes will likely catch up to them:

- Targeting casuals
- Motion sensing sucks
- Cheap hardware

The Wii can't stay on the market as long as the PS3 can. The PS3 will still be growing after the Wii is discontinued.

A choice between a $250-299 PS3 and a $150-200 Wii is very different from today's choice. Both systems will have large libraries by then, but the PS3 has the technical advantage.

Every feature of the PS3 that seems like overkill today, will be considered acceptable in 3 years, and still adequate in 6. The Wii is barely acceptable now.

It'll be a lot closer than people think.

The Wii doesn't have any competition right now at its price point. The 360 Arcade isn't catching on with kids and families as intended. But the PS3 will have a huge following among kids when it drops to $299 (E3 2009).

I expect a 50/50 split between the PS3 and Wii at first, but later the PS3 will pull ahead. Kids will want to move on to PG-13 PS3 games when they get bored of the G rated Wii games.

Yeah, I'm sure Microsoft's thinking of excuses for May. Shortages, economy, famine, locusts...

So much for all those Xbox 360 "shortages".

All of Microsoft's recent number spinning and phony excuses all indicate the Xbox 360 is in trouble.

NPD totals for 2008:
PS3: 994k
360: 935k

The PS3 will likely outsell the 360 in all regions this year. That's probably why Sony isn't dropping the price, there's no pressure anymore.

As for the Wii, when the PS3 hits a kid friendly price, Wii sales will take a big hit.

LOL!

Look for HB96st on the 11:00 news. He's the one with the AK-47 up in the clock tower.

The problem with the Wii, though, is that Nintendo is the only one really raking it in.

EA's financial report shows the PS2 made them more money than the Wii:

10m, so no price drop or slim PS3 this year. The software really isn't there yet.
