is there some advantage to building a clumsy looking slow walking tank in the future instead of just going with the traditional tracks?

this would be a cool way to whip up some cg environments, although i'm sure the meshes created would be pretty ugly and be a lot more dense than needed, but maybe useful for normal or displacement maps

what do you people do to your electronics to get finger prints all over the glossiness?
