Came home from visiting family looking at playing CODIV merrily through new years day. Got the RROD after an hour back home. Turns out the replacement procedure now takes weeks (it was much faster when I had problems with my console around the time of launch). OK, fine, I have enough invested in the system that I will just suck it up and buy a new one, giving the old non-HDMI one to someone if/when it comes back. But you would think that since reliability is one of the key complaints about Xbox 360 in the console wars they would make replacement for clear RROD cheap, cheerful and most important FAST.
