Aug 9th 2006 11:54PM (Joystiq)Remember a few years ago when people were up in arms about the violence on television and the impact it had on the children of America? Well, a certain minority of people came out and stated that it was the parents responsibility to monitor what their children were watching, but no one seemed to give them any attention. Low and behold! An invention comes out called the V-chip that takes away the fact that aduldts actually have to pay attention to their kids when they come home from work and see what type of input they are receiving, it leaves it in the hands of a computer chip. I'm just really tired of politicians and everyone else throwing the parenting card to people behind the counter of a store.
It is inexcusable for anyone to pawn of the resposibiluty of being a parent onto anyone else, let alone an 18 year old who works in a video game store.
Parents, you want the reason your 11 year is playing GTA? Look in the goddamn mirror.
Yeah, I'm drunk and ranting

Publishers to miss boat if Wii sells well this holiday
Jul 19th 2006 12:51PM (Joystiq)Look, I'm not stating that all parents are all of a sudden tech gurus, I'm saying that they are not as stupid as some would make them out to be. If your friends don't know anything about what is on the market who do you think they are going to ask? probably you, because you have user based knowledge. Then you can give them an informed (and maybe biased) opinion, or they can always just go on a site like this and read everyone bickering at one another.
Bottom line is that the information is out there for people who are uninformed to go get it, and I believe they will due to the prices on the systems. My point was - "They will be asking questions if they are going to be dropping hundreds and maybe thousands of dollars on these machines." I never once stated who they would be asking or if they would receive the proper guidance.

Jul 19th 2006 12:08PM (Joystiq)I think that everyone is forgetting that parents aren't idiots anymore. We are getting into the generation of parents that grew up playing videogames consoles like Nintendo, SNES, Genesis, Playstation, the Xbox, PS2, and they will wind up playing alongside their kids. Everyone uses a computer at some point in time and people basically know the difference in performance between a shitty and good computer. Now, I am not saying they know the specs of the machine but they can tell the difference in performance. They will be asking questions if they are going to be dropping hundreds and maybe thousands of dollars on these machines
I think we should all get our heads out of our asses and give the parents and consumers some credit. I am 29 and half of my friends have kids and all of them have at least one console at home.
Nintendo: "We are not aware of any problems with the hinge of the DS Lite"
Jul 18th 2006 4:33PM (Joystiq)I think the problem is that the DS Lite has only been on sale for a couple of months, to own a portable device and to had have a problem like this arise so early is an extreme issue. Expect more of these issues to start surfacing in the next monthor two.
