May 24th 2007 5:42PM (Joystiq)C'mon, don't be an idiot. We're talking about home consoles, not handhelds. Your desperation is just further proving my point; the 360 is the ONLY truly Next Gen console on the market.
BTW, if you really consider the N-Gage a viable gaming platform, you are more lost than I thought. Let's try to keep the discussion to hardware that has sold more than 13 units.

May 24th 2007 5:31PM (Joystiq)The PS3 can do 4x AA alone. So the choices are, great lighting with jaggies or no jaggies with subpar lighting.

May 24th 2007 5:20PM (Joystiq)LOL, you are hilarious. What's so stupid about my definition of Next-Gen?
I expect a machine powerful enough to play games ONLINE and Offline. Have you EVER played a racing game that you couldn't play in your living room with your friends? And Colin McCrae doesn't count as its a one player only game againt a clock, not opponents. Well, that's what Motorstorm is. Oh, and nevermind that it only has EIGHT tracks...pathetic.
Every game released on both the 360 and PS3 so far is BETTER on the 360. What's your response (excuse) to that?
Microsoft had all the best exclusives this generation, especially when it comes to new IP's. This must really sting a Sony fan's backside as this was Sony's main reason for superiority last Gen. The only decent exclusive I've heard of for Sony is LAIR (which doesn't interest me) and MGS4 (stale old IP) and Gran Turismo 4 (another stale IP). Sony needs some fresh new ideas. Don't even get me started on HOME...oh yeah, we want to give you a 3d world and an avatar, but matchmaking is still going to suck...have fun with that!
Maybe they can hire a Microsoft consultant to find some fresh ideas.

May 24th 2007 5:07PM (Joystiq)The Wii's lack of horsepower instantly relegates it last Gen 1.5 status. The PS3, while supposedly loaded with all the glory of the Cell processor can't manage to play Tennis online or Motorstorm split screen offline. The PS3 doesn't even support antialiasing, which means 5 to 10 more years of jaggies games from Sony. But, hey who cares, it has a Blu-ray player...whoohoo!
In the meantime, I'm playing GRAW2, DOA Online, MLB2K7, the Halo 3 Beta, Fight Night Round 3, Gears of War and next week Forza 2. I have another couple hundred games to choose from but not enough time to play them all (though I've tried with over 100 games listed on my achievements list) even with my Gamefly membership.
I sold a PS3 because I got sick of waiting for games that aren't coming out until mid 2008. The Wii doesn't interest me, and even if it did, there are NO games for it. Am I supposed to play Zelda 30 times? Ugh, please.
Microsoft is leading the way and Sony needs to wake up, smell the coffee, initiate a $200 price cut and then MAYBE I'll consider buying another PS3 next year.
In the meantime, I have to get back to the reason were all SUPPOSEDLY here... playing games.
Gamestop says no Metal Gear Solid 4 until 2008
May 21st 2007 2:37PM (Joystiq Playstation)Halo single player is overrated I think. The ending of Halo2 was about as disappointing as any game ending ever has been. Halo 1 was better because it was so new and it was so much better graphically than ANYTHING on the planet at the time; even the most jaded Sony fan couldn't play Halo without being impressed, and at least a little jealous.
Online though, Halo sets the standard for matchmaking. I LOVE GRAW2 online as well as Gears of War, Dead or Alive and most of my sports games (especially MLB2k7) but none of those games makes it easier and more intuitive to get in the kind of game I want with the kinds of players I want than does Halo.
Honestly, the one thing Microsoft could do to make Xbox Live even better than it already is is to require all online games to have a matchmaking system as well-designed as Halo's.
There is something to be said for Halo's mechanics too. When you play online and you run head to head against someone and you bash him in the face with your weapon, something about it just feels right. It's hard to explain, but no other game I've ever played online (and I've played 'em ALL) quite does it as well as Halo.
BTW, I won a 360 and Owned a PS3. I sold my PS3 a couple months ago. Got sick of waiting for games to come out in 2008. I liked it the first couple weeks I had it. The GT demo and Resistance kept me occupied for a little while. But then they got old, Motorstorm was utterly disappointing and anything else worth having (LAIR? blech!) won't be out until at LEAST 2008.
At that point it actually made me angry to look at the PS3 console everyday. This mammoth black box sitting on my desk taking up space without delivering anything to make it worthy of it's place next to my Xbox 360. I bought one Blu-Ray movie - Invinceable. Honestly it didn't look much better than regular DVD. Not enough so to make it a selling point, that's for sure. So, I listed on EBAY, sold it for $800 with the games and movie and put the money towards a new gaming PC.
Holidays 2008, when (if) the PS3 finally has some compelling software AND a significant pricedrop, I will consider buying one then.
But right now, you ahve to be a major Sony Fanboy or Sony Drone or just plain stupid to think the PS3 is a btter gamning system than the Xbox 360 RIGHT NOW and for the remainder of 2007.
Beyond that we'll see. But right now Xbox 360 is the clear best of class. The Wii doesn't even count...it's not in the same class as either the PS3 or 360.
PS3 sales spike on Amazon after SGD '07 event
May 18th 2007 8:19PM (Joystiq Playstation)The PS3 DOES have backwards compatibility issues. Only a fraction of PS2/1 titles are backwards compatible.
Either way, as someone who sold my PS3 for the simple reason that there are NO GAMES for it, I am sick of Sony, their hype, and their EGO.
They refused to pay Immersion for the rights to use rumble, and instead released a sixasis bluetooth Wii ripoff that doesn't even always stay synced with the console. I don't how many times I got killed in Resistance online because my controller just intermittently stopped working. I returned the console thinking it was a defective unit, but the second one had the same problem. And I'm not alone, MANY people online reported the same problem.
I think Paul Atkinson hit the nail on the head when he pointed out the promotional pricing of the PS3 as the leading factor for the short-term sales spike. The PS3 LOOKS nice and shiny, and I loved the power button (man, that thing was cool) but the graphics were not as good as Xbox 360 games of the same name, and the online (even with HOME) is still going to be inferior FOR GAMING to Xbox Live. When you factor all this in, it is simply not worth $600. No way, not for Blu Ray, not for Ray Ray and not for Sugar Ray. For gaming, it's a $400 GAMING machine. Sell it at that and Sony would start crushing once they get a steady flow of games in the pipeline. But Sony is too arrogant to lower the price any time soon. Besides, they know like me...a price drop won't help them in the long run without games.
