Joyswag: Kid Icarus Uprising AR Idol Cards

Mar 24th 2012 2:51PM (Joystiq)
My friend Mike decided to cook up a vegetarian hamburger recipe for me after I swore off of meat for about a month. It's base ingredient was eggplant mixed with peppers... it's absolutely delicious, especially when grilled up nicely.

...he named it the Eggplant Wizard.

Two beers, a packet of peanuts, and a thumb shaped communications device.

Swag Sunday: Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii) [update]

Sep 20th 2009 8:57PM (Joystiq)
My favorite Metroid moment was when I got the Morph Ball for the first time. I remember it sent my 3-4 year old brain into shock, since I'd only played Mario and Megaman games previously... the idea of my hero becoming a tight little ball that could explore small spaces? AMAZING.

Hell, just think of how I felt when I played Sonic for the first time!

The engagement ring that I'm holding onto to give to my future wife sometime in the near-ish future.

Mega64 shills for GameTap

Jul 17th 2009 4:20PM (Joystiq)
GameTap was a brilliant service, well worth the $10 a month with it's surplus of classics, original games, and video programming. Hell, they even brought my favorite MMO back from the dead (Myst Online: Uru Live)!

Then they removed a bunch of their games, stopped having any original games, cancelled the video programming altogether, and shut down the MMO. GameTap, in it's current buggy and anemic browser based state is NOT worth $10 a month.

PSP version of Myst hitting PlayStation Network July 16

Jul 11th 2009 8:21PM (Joystiq)
Good on you! The Saturn version of the game was my first experience with the series, and I feel like I got lucky there. I still remember passing the manual for my Saturn copy of the game to Rand Miller (one of the creators, also portrays Atrus and Achenar, the blue brother, in Myst) and seeing his face light up as he said "Oh! This was one of the good ones!"

It seems like a lot of the various ports tended to be done by companies who had little interest in doing justice to the product, particularly the DS and PSP ports.

PSP version of Myst hitting PlayStation Network July 16

Jul 11th 2009 8:14PM (Joystiq)
Part of me sees this a good news, because it could be additional revenue for Cyan Worlds to start making new games again. But it's also disheartening, because both the DS and PSP ports of the game are pretty terrible, and they turned off a lot of new players because of how badly powered they were.

The bonus Rime age serves as an excellent bridge from Myst to Riven. The problem is that Rime was originally built to be played in the realtime 3D remake of Myst, "realMYST", and these ports include the additional age by using stills taken of Rime. This results in a pretty shocking shift in art style and quality, since it's something thrown together by Hoplite instead of Cyan.

If you really want to play Myst, it shouldn't be terribly hard to find one of the various releases of the original game for PC, or you could also play the beautiful 3D remake "realMYST" on GameTap. If you've got an iPhone, that's probably your best option, since it's currently the highest quality assets that have been provided for the original game, and at $6 for a pretty large adventure game, it's hard to pass up.

I suspect it should be made of a superball coated in particularly viscous mercury.

Myst III: Exile, actually. Still wrong, though.

Off the Grid + Joyswag: Donkey Kong Jenga

Risk - Mass Effect Edition! RISK! MASS EFFECT! EDITION!

Just imagine being able to play as one of the numerous races in the game, moving to colonize and rule various uncharted planets, while also trying to defend your home world and claim those of other players.

Please?!

Second choice would be a Myst - WhoDunnit sort of game to make up for the godawful board game that got licensed back in '98 or so.
