Brütal Legend isn't going to MTV Games

Aug 16th 2008 6:16AM (Joystiq Xbox)
If MS is smart, they try and publish this game under its Microsoft Game Studios label.
It has a chance of not being a big seller, just like last Double Fine/Schafer title, but critics love it so it will give them good rep by rescue-ing/ publishing such alternative title (not only publishing the big blockbusters like Halo and Ninja Gaiden).
MS can also make the game an x360 Exclusive and do some Jack Black&Motörhead Lemmy HD video interview promotion + gamedemo on Marketplace to let us all know about the game.

1200 MS point Braid releases to the XBLA this week

Aug 4th 2008 1:55PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Don't forget this is a newly developed game, not just some port of old 1980/90 arcade game or sumting.
1200 MSP translates to 15 euro's, that's something of 15 dollars/12 pounds if I am correct.
This game got a very nice reviewscore from Edge magazine.
If you would see this game in your local gamestore, next to all the other x360 games, for a price of only 15 dollars you would be interested, right?
I understand all pricepoints above 800/1200 MSP feel somewhat 'expensive' for 'only' an XBL Arcade game, but most of the time they aren't really that expensive if you think about it...

Valve would 'love' to see its older titles on XBLA

Jul 30th 2008 1:42AM (Joystiq Xbox)
eh...no it did not fail: the game is still in Xbox(1) Live top 10/top 5 every week (see Major Nelson website).
I loved the xbox version (dont like to play on pc with mouse/keyb, I'm a consolegamer) and would like to see it ported properly to XBLA/XboxOriginals. The game itself is backwardcompatible right now, only talking to each other and HD upscaling* does not go very well in backwcomp mode.
And I would like them change the control speed setup (now if you want your control setup fast, you need to click the analog sticks, hold em and move ingame which does not work imo, so please give us sensitivity bar like every other FPS instead).

Btw: the game was developed/ported over by Turtle Rock Studios, you know the dev that got purchased couple o months ago by its publisher Valve because of their new game Left 4 Dead looking mighty good (fun).

*: when you play CS for xbox(1) on your 360 in backwcomp mode, you only get 4:3 image when you have 720p/1080i/1080p x360 setup. Only when you change your x360 setup to 480i/p you get normal 16:9 image....which is a bit of a hassle to do every time you want to play CS and have a HD tv.

Shane Kim: Microsoft feels 'bad' about MMO failings

Jul 29th 2008 1:08PM (Joystiq Xbox)
If you are talking about a Microsoft Game Studios (MGO) MMORPG, than yeah, they didn't deliver when they had an interesting thing goin on (True Fantasy Online by Jap dev Level 5.
But you can (if you want to) find 2 MMORPG's on x360: Final Fantasy XI by Square and Phantasy Star Universe by Sega.
Think MS (or Sony) dont like it when you get hooked (addicted) on playing MMORPG's on their console, so you don't buy/play other games thus dont generate money for them

Rumor: Vader DLC to darken SoulCalibur IV

Jul 27th 2008 8:33AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Maybe they give you Vader for free when you have unlocked everything else/got all achievements.
For people not fortunate to have time/skills/patience to do that, Namco gives us Noobs/Casual gamers the choice of downloading/unlocking big black mean Vader dude for small fee. Think that's fair.

Besides if you don't like to pay/play to get Vader, Yoda is the better choice, cuz he's one of the good guys (puppets actually): he's in the SC4 'White Edition', he is green, he's the underdog (because of its size and retarded way of talking) but he will probably win over that dark basterd of an evil meanie(Vader) if he really focused and be creative (bit like the console war between evil/dark stubborn PS3 and nice&clean/white&enlightened x360)

New Afro Samurai trailer kicks ass, drops names

Jul 25th 2008 5:31PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Interested in the same way I became interested in new Prince of Persia after seeing the new look (grungie cellshaded artstyle with Assassins Creed kinda fluent animation) from the E3 trailer.
Nice.

Unreal Engine 4 will be ready for next console gen

Jul 24th 2008 3:47PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Announcing Unreal Engine 4 focusing on and ready for nextgen consoles is maybe just a little keeping attention away from ID software with its
Tech Engine 5?? Because games are gonna be announced this year running on this new ID engine. Epic making good money licensing their UE3 (even Japanese SquEnix is using it ffs!) and promoting it by making showoff* games for it (Gears1 for UE3 for x360, Unreal Tournament III for UE3 on PS3 and Gears2 for the upgraded UE3 1.5v for x360).
I think they want to maintain the attention UE3 gets and the money that Epic receives. I love Epic, I love their games, but I also love ID and am curious about how Quake4 and Doom4 are gonna look and feel like.

PS: I think Epic releasing UTIII on PS3 last november was important for Epic to show all PS3 devs that UE3 could look and play very good (before UTIII all UE3 PS3 games had suffered from comparisons with their x360 UE3 versions looks and gameplay wise).

* showoff: games that are freakin beautiful AND also very good games (gameplaywise)

Final Fantasy XIII no longer a PS3 exclusive

Jul 14th 2008 4:00PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Yeah, I predicted this to happen along with MGS4 on x360 (only in Substance form) more than a year ago. All the big Japanese companies are going multiplatform (Capcom, Namco, Square, Konami), because that's the only way to get the money to have those 100+ developement teams that are needed nowadays in this nextgen graphics/animation/art HD period.
Don't act so surprised, Sony had it coming. What goes around comes around: remember Square departing Nintendo to join the Playstation platform for its new FF titles? Wasnt so long ago. Be happy FFXIII isnt exclusive to x360 (like FF was to PS when they left Nintendo), you can still play the game on the system you have right now.

Half-Life 2: Episode 3 is coming to a 360 near you

Jul 14th 2008 3:14AM (Joystiq Xbox)
If they can manage to get H:L2, Episode 3 together with Portal 2 and Counter-Strike (Source?) on one disc (with maybe some new maps for Team Fortress thrown in), that would be Heaven.

Source: Halo "Blue" headed to 360 in September

Jul 14th 2008 2:31AM (Joystiq Xbox)
They could have made a HD remake of Halo(1): Combat Evolved using the Halo3-engine.
Put some new stuff in, got some stuff out, edit some bits (Library?) and call it a Director's Cut or sumting.
Remade all the multiplayer maps to be Xbox Live compatible and also to be used on Halo3.
Sell the game for 30 dollars and U got a winner there.
Still think part1 was the greatest, like Matrix(1), I did not have the same emotional response for its sequels (gameplay/story singleplayer campaign wise).

If remake is succesfull, they can do Halo2 remake, to make even more money and give x360 owners the complete Halo HD remake/remastered Director's Cut series for their system.

Or maybe it's Halo with Smurfs, something like the Lego videogameseries (StarWars, Indiana Jones etc).
