Microsoft Kin: everything you ever wanted to know

Apr 14th 2010 4:31PM (Engadget)
Unless I'm mistaken (Entirely plausible), these don't have GPS, which is a shame. Having a foursquare type app would be awesome and definitely add to the appeal for both parents AND kids. I know VZ is really pushing for the parent-being-able-to-track their kids aspect of the program. Now, as for something like Bing maps to take on Google? Meh. Not really needed on its own considering the target audience.

And no IM is just... retarted. Every single person I know in their target audience uses some IM client or another, and considering even Verizon dumbphones have it (using text messages, no less!), I seriously hope that it gets added in fast.

Now, here's hoping that this is marketed as a featurephone (with the featurephone 15 dollar Data plan on VZ as well!) instead of a smartphone, since there are plenty of smartphones out there that will blow it away for less than 50 up front (Looking at you pixi plus!)

Trillian chat client gets a Mac version, now in alpha

Jan 31st 2010 2:20AM (Download Squad)
I personally use Trillian Astra on all my Windows computers, and even liked it enough to pick up a pro license. However, I prefer adium over it. Its just... more polished. As in, everything works, notably facebook chat. I have gotten it to work in trillian once.

That said, I am going to be watching development very closely. I'm hoping for the best.

DirecTV's public beta of multi-room viewing for existing DVRs is on

I do agree that it is a shame that the WMC tuner is gone (Dual usb tuner? I mean, that sentence is win), but as it stands right now Directv IS making good progress with pc integration.

Hell, I actually used the directv2pc app yesterday for the first time in a while (I had used it in the beta when it first came out), and it works wonderfully. I have one copy of it running on my desktop (Connected via gigabit router) and another copy on my laptop (connected by either its own dedicated 5GHz N network, and also has a fallback 2.4GHz N network being broadcast from two base stations at opposite ends of my house connected together via the Belkin Powerline HD kit (God, that thing is amazing)), and they both stream 1080i perfectly fine with no drops and no lag. I also have my desktop set up to stream TO it, which generally does not work as well.

At least their not limiting the media connectivity to viiv pc's anymore. THAT was a retarted move.

I really hope this is VESA compatible. I got all excited about the Dell, and then I found out that the stand is not removable. Thats a no-go for me, since I really want to wall mount this next to my existing setup.

The C90 is a rebranded Asus C90s, and while it is an amazing notebook (I just OC'd to 3ghz on an e6600), the ram, wireless, and battery issues should be taken into consideration.
