Everyone has a Viva Piņata confession

Jun 2nd 2007 10:48PM (Joystiq Xbox)
@Ciaran

George Bush is Hitler, Gauntanamo is Auschwitz, violence solves nothing, won't someone please think of the children war for oil Halliburton asjkdflkawje.

Sorry, I had some kind of liberal seizure. Please take your tired, naive canards and carefully transport them to a relevant thread where someone cares.

Halo 3 details and rumors shot down

I was talking about HD set owners. I wonder whether SD tv users really comprise the majority of the 360 install base, though.

Halo 3 details and rumors shot down

Devs should focus on 720p this generation anyway. Running games in 1080p isn't worth it if the game could look substantially better at 720p.

The vast majority of us have 720p displays anyway. Demanding that games run in 1080p is asking for the rest of us to accept lesser visuals with no added benefit so that a tiny, tiny fraction of users can run it extra crispy style. Makes no sense.

Maybe they could take a page from computers and give a switch that reduces graphical quality to make the jump to 1080p. I'd prefer that they didn't even do that.

Meet the first real Halo Spartan

Ciaran, I hope you can come to realize how vapid your position is. Do you consider the body armor we presently send our troops into battle with to be 'not cool'? If you take a moment to reasonably examine your sentiments--and that is all they are--you'll see that your beliefs are merely for your own warm fuzzies.

While I appreciate what the man is doing/trying to do, I don't think he's going to get taken seriously by a major military after his quixotic bear protection suit. Not that individuals with ideas can't change the face of warfare. I mean, just look at Richard Gatling. That said, getting a major military to listen usually involves them to get their asses truly kicked first.

As far as his suit specifically, I was under the impression that the forces we are deploying now generally prefer high mobility to protection. The 'armor everything' concept is a political darling, not a great military doctrine.

Europe's 'This is living' PS3 ad

Jan 14th 2007 3:12PM (Joystiq)
Great ad for Stackmat.

I have to agree with an earlier commentator on the inappropriate nature of the metaphor. These ad people just wanted, for some reason--maybe one of them is a fan--to put cup-stackers in an ad. Comparing the cell processor to this is an immense strain, and conveys no information about the cell. They don't even get to any solid claims about what the cell does for gaming. Or anything. Does it stack cups? I guess!

Also, splicing in the e3 target render into motorstorm footage? Ha. As if people aren't angry enough about that switcheroo.

I feel for them in Europe, though. They're late to the game, HDTV penetration there is low, they cost a ton, and they haven't got much to show for it. The solution, if you're a marketing guy, is change the subject.

The ECA, a consumer advocacy group for gamers [update 1]

Perfectly apt to compare them to the NRA. The NRA defends second amendment rights against people who want to curtail them extraconstitutionally, and this organization does the same for the first amendment.

How much time are you getting out of your games?

Sep 25th 2006 11:13PM (Joystiq)
I have real problems finding the time to finish games over 15 hours long anymore. It's been a long time since high school when I dropped 60 hours into Final Fantasies without even blinking.

I guess that depends how many bathroom mirrors you have on hand?

Mr. Cole has a good point--gaming journalism needs its dispassionate skeptics.

However, it is an entertainment industry--consider how much of a joke the E! channel is and you have a better idea of what the bar is here.
