List is fail without the obvious edition - The Pillows. Only rock band to semi-effectively span both continents.

Rock Band Weekly: Tom Petty, Phoenix, Silvertide

Definitely agree. Their best album is still "Its never been like that" but their release last year was not bad. Looking forward to their next pack. Best French band ever!

PSN Thursday: All systems are PSP Go for a massive update

Hey this may have gotten overshadowed.... or maybe it was not a surprise to anyone... but the PSP version of Pixeljunk Monsters is available as well. Personally I think this is a much better format for the game. Having a mobile version is a much better gaming fit for me (even tho I have the PS3 version).

Garnett Lee becomes editorial director for GameFly media, including Shacknews [update]

I hope he can leverage his industry connections and set up a great new podcast since he will still be console agnostic. Gotta say it but 1upyours was going downhill and with the aquisition the replacement podcast was never up to snuff. Heres hoping for the best!

Tekken 6 release date: October 27 in North America

Jun 23rd 2009 10:13AM (Joystiq)
Its most likely a Yoshimitsu skin but considering the new novelty items available for in-game purchase it could be another character who has a sword as well. No further details have been revealed yet.

New Rock Band Unplugged footage is chopping suey

Look fun and infinitely easier and approachable then DJ MAX portable. Its much like 4b mode with the triggers used for switching.

Tekken 6 also pummeling PSP

Apr 28th 2009 7:44PM (Joystiq)
Incredible news. I love that I will be able to play my friends on my PS3 then take their ghosts with me on the bus in the morning on my PSP. I hope that any subsequent patches will also be made available for both versions so that the only differences are pixels. This is truly a win for handheld gamers everywhere!

CES 2009: No Rock Band 3 in 2009

Jan 8th 2009 10:18AM (Joystiq)
Um where is your proof regarding the low profit margins on DLC? I'm pretty sure that I've read in the past that their whole profit model is based on DLC, thats why hardware sales are less of an issue. Do you have a link to validate what you are saying or is it just conjecture?

And by the way, Rock Band has no real "edge" hardware or software-wise on activision. I personally enjoy Rock Band much better then GH because I think its a higher quality game, but my sentiments are definitely not shown in the NPDs. The only advantage that "Harmonix" is a recognizable name brand. I think thats why they were chosen over Neversoft and Red Octane.

Rumor: PSP-4000 out next year, PSP2 in development

Dec 16th 2008 11:27AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Honestly, PSP2 just needs to pump out graphics at full PS2 levels. Sure the guys at Ready At Dawn squeezed the hell out of the PSP potential to make a game that looked like the PS2 ones (GoW:COO), but if the starting point is the great looking later gen PS2 titles then it would be all I would need. I love my DS but I cant stand the N64 like sprites used with superdeformed features thats used in almost all 3D games. PSP2 just needs to be as powerful and easy to develop for as the PS2 out of the gate. I hope Sony doesn't try to go the extra mile and make a super expensive machine that has graphics that the developers will have to struggle tap into for the first 2 years that its out.

Rumor: PSP-4000 out next year, PSP2 in development

Dec 16th 2008 11:18AM (Joystiq Playstation)
The reason why there are no games coming out for PSP at the moment is because of the ify sales figures of 9-12 months ago. Many publishers were not green-lighting projects on the PSP because they were not sure the platform would last. Now we can see that the PSP is doing very well, better in Japan then the US and Europe but good nonetheless. The problem is that game development takes at least a year and developing for the PSP is no different. So most likely, the only big releases in the beginning of next year will be first party titles, then by mid year to early fall we might get the Squenix KH and FF titles and some other big third party releases, some we probably have not even heard of yet. I, for one, am definitely hyped for the next hardware release. I got a PSP-2000 earlier this year and I have been extremely please with it. I know that with a more robust firmware, greater graphical prowess, and better third party support the PSP2 could be my favorite console.
