I agree about John. He's got to toughen up a lot before he's believable as the world resistance leader. All these military people wouldn't trust him, regardless of whether he's broadcasting from an abandoned military base, if he's just a hacker kid.

Whether you like the action or not, that was the basis of the Terminator franchise.

"You do understand that since this is a TV broadcast, and in a 9p-10P time slot, there is only so much violence they can get away with showing before a certain segment of the public throws a fit."

Like strangling a woman in a shower? It wasn't too much to show the brutal murder, in stop motion, of an unarmed murder. It wasn't too much to show a woman strangled, or an unarmed guy having his neck broken. But it is too much to show armed FBI agents fighting a Terminator? No, the reason for not showing that FBI fight is either they don't have the budget, or the ability to show the real action.

They also choose not to show Cameron killing the guy she stuffed in the trunk, and look at the impression a viewer had. That Reese is more brutal than Cameron.

This is another case of a TV sci-fi show where the producers are so caught up with art and introspection that they can't do justice to the story, which requires the big action.

Terminator was popular because it had action. This series not only doesn't advance plot through action, an important part of the success of T movies, but it avoids action like the plague. Even where there is action, such as a pool full of blood teasing viewers for two weeks that we would see a terminator take out a whole FBI squad, it turns the camera away from the action or hides it. It's like the director telling us "there's some cool action going on folks, but I don't want you to be able to see it."

The movies worked because they had lots of action with enough introspection to connect us with the characters. The TV series doesn't work because it is too heavy on the introspection. Show us the T taking out the FBI guys, show them running in fear, show it, and that final episode is terrific rather than ho hum.

BTW, of course Cameron wasn't destroyed. We've already seen Terminators survive larger explosions, including exploding tanker trucks. BTW, we know why the T didn't kill the agent. The producers hit us over the head with the reason. The agent has the files the T is looking for, and the T doesn't know where the agent has those files located. The agent is searching for John. The T needs to find John, so it's leaving the agent alive. It was a move to help complete its mission.

Japan announced its surrender six days after the second bomb fell on Nagasaki.

The reason Japan didn't surrender after the first bomb was that the Emperor wanted to preserve his rule as a condition of surrender. He didn't care a penny for his people.

An Open Letter to Comcast and Every cable/Telco on P2P - updated

If ISP's block P2P traffic, they'll be blocking legitimate use too. Many sites offer downloads via P2P. These include stores that sell content for 3D programs, and some movie sites and independent producers.

P2P is a protocol, not a content. Protocols like IRC, FTP, and HTTP are also used by people to download and upload pirated material. Blocking the delivery method won't destroy the content. Pirates will find other ways to access and deliver pirated content.

Mark Cuban doesn't understand the difference between a protocol and content.

from mc. actually, i have understood the difference since i installed my first lan in 1983...read my posts.. really read them.

A look at EA's new realism tools

May 20th 2006 4:51AM (Joystiq)
All the features are about look.

Is there anything being developed regarding game play, AI simulating desire of players to win? If I play an average guy in NBA 06 I can dominate a game, and none of the AI guys can challenge me.

I'd take stick figures with more functional realism over these graphic improvements. Besides driving people to buy more expensive hardware, do they improve game play?
