Amnesia follow-up teased with ARG, more clues

Feb 18th 2012 5:45AM (Joystiq)
'The Chinese Room' is also the name of a thought experiment used in discussions of AI. However relevant that may be :)

Can't wait for more Amnesia!

Gearbox reveals its new real-world Lilith model for Borderlands 2

Jan 19th 2012 4:18AM (Joystiq)
Here's hoping for some female characters that aren't raging sex object stereotypes in BL2. That'd be fun. Can't say the video gives me much hope though!

SCE VP: Move should have done better in Europe (but it didn't)

Jan 13th 2012 5:27AM (Joystiq)
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are all guilty these days of pinning their hopes on gimmick hardware that is required by or enhances only a very narrow scope of software options, most of them of the five minute novelty variety.

Lexis Numerique explains Amy's PSN price disparity, poll to decide US price

Jan 7th 2012 10:07AM (Joystiq)
@mwatcher Tell me about it. I was interested but the needless fuss is a right turn off.

Just use your common, ethical sense to price your game for what it's worth and get on with selling it! Facebook polls, jesus. Never ask your consumers how much they want to pay for your product.

Square working on original, Unreal-powered action RPG

@This Little Man Says His Name Is
Agreed. I actually really liked TLR but it was a kick in the gut to leisurely spend the game fighting most enemies I came across because I enjoyed the battle system, and only realising 80% of the way into the game and a gamefaqs read later that by doing so I'd totally gimped my team. Although saying that, it did make the final boss a challenge, which is a rare thing these days, so maybe it's not so bad!

Gearbox seeks live-action Lilith

Shouldn't be hard to find someone. She's a pretty generic vacant-expressioned seductress with red hair.

New Tomb Raider film to focus on Lara Croft's beginnings

Nov 21st 2011 7:06PM (Joystiq)
@Eniko Meh, real exploration-based Tomb Raider died after Chronicles, with Angel of Darkness being the first step into mediocrity for TR. Just go look at some of the environments in 1-5, how complex and massive in scope they were. You could actually get lost in places like the original St Francis' Folly and Colosseum, and the secrets were genuinely mindshatteringly hard to find.

It's a shame 'cause no game at the minute really fills that exploration gap in the same genre. The closest you can get is open world stuff and it isn't really the same thing.

New Tomb Raider film to focus on Lara Croft's beginnings

For the love of god, stop rebooting everything.

There was never anything wrong with Lara's original origin story, and on paper she never should have turned into a pair of tits and ass. The sole survivor of a plane crash that killed her close family and fiancé, rejecting her aristocratic origins, disowned by her family as a result and making her own money through writing, craving the social isolation of archaeological exploration and stuffed with cultural and historical smarts to boot. As a young girl growing up in a game culture dominated by beefy soldiers and helpless women, I totally idolised Lara for being the first real source of girl power in the industry. That she was designed by men and had huge boobs was just something I had to put up with. In spirit, she was groundbreaking.

The new Tomb Raider and inevitably the movie if it follows suit just seem like excuses to put a youthful-looking girl through some bloody torment. Lara did good back in the day, but I think it's time for her to retire.

New IP please, Hollywood and game industry.

Once upon a time, Uncharted was a Tolkien-inspired fantasy romp

Sep 26th 2011 1:45PM (Joystiq)
I guess this is why we're not seeing another Naughty Dog Jak and Daxter game :( Shame. At least Uncharted is imbued with ND's trademark quirky sense of humour and attention to detail.

Commander Shepard is leaving us after Mass Effect 3

Aug 30th 2011 4:39AM (Joystiq)
Player decisions will likely affect whether Shepard lives or dies. I just hope it doesn't come down to Paragon = noble sacrifice vs Renegade = save yourself! Some Paragon options that leave Shepard alive would be nice, and vice versa.
