It is my contention that a Blu-Ray Xbox 360 was in planning at Redmond up until the very last minute i.e. a launch. Someone, somewhere realised what kind of economic times we were headed into and expanding costs without a good sales forecast paused or scrapped this project. I reckon you could find an Xbox with a Blu-Ray drive in MSHQ if you rooted around a bit.
