David Jaffe leaves Eat Sleep Play, layoffs hit developer [Update]
Feb 7th 2012 9:17AM (Joystiq)If you haven't noticed, it's been the trend for a few years now. It's unfortunate because I really wanted to get into the gaming industry, but all these layoffs, closing of studios, and piracy/DRM thing have definitely made me want nothing to do with developing games.

Phantasy Star Online 2 preview: Back, in action
Sep 19th 2011 8:57AM (Joystiq)I did the same thing. Was there when PSO launched, loved it, skipped version 2 when they announced a P2P price model. And the really sad thing is, Sega never really adds anything to compensate for the monthly fee.
The game was always a glorified Diablo and should be marketed the same way: Pay for game, play online for free, optional pay for expansion later down the road. With DLC working how it has been on consoles the past few years, no reason why Sega shouldn't do the same thing.
Look at Oblivion. Bethesda probably made more money through DLC than Sega did on PSU subscribers.
You really should have seen this amazing footage from The Avengers video game
Sep 19th 2011 8:32AM (Joystiq)Seriously, I know there are hundreds of FPS games out there, but they are all mainly military shooters. This game looked really fun and I would have loved to have been playing as Iron Man. Too bad THQ, it looked REALLY fun!
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to have cross-play for PS3, PC, Mac and not Xbox
Aug 29th 2011 12:38PM (Joystiq)I think the big thing that everyone is forgetting is that Microsoft hosts the servers for publishers...well, except for EA, but that's another issue altogether. When you see games like Demons Souls on the PS3 going offline, it would not happen on XBL because Microsoft is the host. Microsoft would probably allow crossplay if it were a Games for Windows, but the only games to have done that are Shadowlands and Lost Planet. Steam is a whole other service.
Don't get me wrong, I think cross platform play is the way it should be. But Microsofts system does not allow it for fear of hacks and server support. Though, they do allow EA to host their own servers which has always annoyed me.

Aug 25th 2011 8:30AM (Joystiq)Ubisoft announces 'Uplay Passport' online pass for Driver: SF, future games
Jul 15th 2011 2:40PM (Joystiq)I said it before and I'll say it again. WTF am I paying XBL for if this shit is going to happen? Correct me if I am wrong, but the only company other than Microsoft hosting their own servers are EA, and we all know how good EA's servers are...so what are we paying Uplay for?
This is a fundamental problem that can be stopped easily my Microsoft. If I am already paying $60 a year for XBL access, why do I have to pay again to play a used game online? I can't beleive Microsoft are letting these companies getting away with this. Outrage!
Rumor: Driver San Francisco to use 'Uplay Passport' for online play
Jul 15th 2011 12:45PM (Joystiq)What pisses me off more than anything about U-Play is that for X-Box users, Microsoft hosts the servers, not Ubisoft. So what exactly are they providing?
