Panasonic's Toughbook CF-U1 gets reviewed

It's interesting. Not too keen on the keyboard. Might be good for something a delivery person or in a cop car. Put a bar scanner on it.

The Toughbook has always been a great piece of equipment if you bang your computers around. This should do well.

OLPC XO-2 to include multitouch and possibly haptic screen from PixelQi

This device doesn't even look like it's gearing for a 3rd world country. For $75, it would be a great machine to keep in the car though. Hopefully theres a USB port on it. I don't know if I want to support a device where there is no way to connect another keyboard.

Eurocom lets loose Quad Core XEON-based D901C PHANTOM-X server laptop

I can definitely think of a few reasons to have this. The biggest one is size. One job I worked at had remote offices. They had a Server on location - usually in a closet of some sort. When we had to work on them, we had to usually find a computer monitor, keyboard and mouse (funny thing is if the employee's keyboard or mouse dies, they think it's alright to take them from the server). This would not only resolve space issue, but also compact-ability AND battery backup (Although I would still have it on a UPS).

I can also use this as a temporary server - Another job, we had our Citrix Web Client on a VMWare server. If I ever had to take down that server during prodution, I could fire up a VPC session on another box. This could be a great "temporary portal replacement" in those situations.

I am not sure the power issue is a big problem. First thing I would do is disable a ton of extras. For instance, I don't need to have the Blu-Ray player enabled 24/7. Once SSD comes down to a reasonable price, that would be the best thing to go into a laptop like that. But then again, I would most likely be plugged into an outlet anyway.

IOGEAR intros USB 2.0 external DVI video card

Apr 21st 2008 11:15AM (Engadget)
I've used USB - VGA connectors before. Not great for anything more than a static screen. If you have a Desktop, it would be better to get a dual monitor video card, and if you have a laptop, just hook up the video and open the lid of the laptop.

I haven't used a single monitor setup for a long time - I recommend dual monitors if you do a lot of work on the computer. However, don't go cheap. Get something that will do the job or else you'll be more disappointed than you were before.

Rock Band Mushroom Drum Pads: nearly too awesome to hit

I just have pictures of ex-girlfriends on my pads. It's neat and adds more sound to the drums.

Then again, if I want to make sound, I'll just pound on my drumset....

Thin is in: LG shares a glimpse of its 5 megapixel hottie phone

I like slider phones, but the keypads seem to be a little bit more awkward to type with. Those buttons look smaller than most.

Wonder what a the MP picture would look like. If that's the flash above the lens, it probably won't be that great of quality in low light situations.
