As PAL waits, potential customers fire back

Sep 6th 2006 9:09PM (Joystiq)
I hate Joystiq - it's so anti-British-Telecom. The homephone 800 is better because it's teh awes0men3ss!. Stop blowing on Motorola. Your so bias!

And to be on-topic, the one with the red-crosses and "Great Job" at the bottom was the one that cracked me up from ear to ear. Should have been featured! :)

Joystiq interviews Peter Molyneux of Lionhead Studios

Jul 17th 2006 4:05PM (Joystiq)
This was probably the best interview with a games develolper I've read, yet. Many thanks Joystiq, good work :)

Also a digg like comment moderation system would be grand. Who wants to read shit like #1? Either that, or you guys could be a little more proactive with the stars. Cheers.

PS3 through the eyes of a 360 fanboy...

Jul 14th 2006 9:33AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Face it, Sony have innovated nothing in this space. They deserve credit for making console gaming popular, but generally they watch other people take risks with technology, and copy them.

Sure motion sensing and multiplayer stuff is not new, but Nintendo are taking the big risk making it the only input format, and MS have shown us how net-connected consoles are a good idea and how to implement it well.

I can't see any counter arguments that hold any weight, but feel free to prove me wrong.

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup: July 2 - 8, 2006

Jul 8th 2006 6:59PM (Joystiq)
Fanboys is great, the new Polygon comic one is lame, I'm fed up with people acting like they have some moral high ground over Sony because they have racism radar or something.

Immersion's overly biased, pro-PS3 rumble survey

Jul 7th 2006 6:08AM (Joystiq)
If I punched my mate in the face, I wouldn't be too surprised if he didn't invite me to his wedding.

You have to bare the cross that you give to yourself Immersion, you dumbos.

Third Resident Evil film to be buried in desert

Jul 5th 2006 9:32AM (Joystiq)
FSK405K, I'm totally with you. The first film was brilliant, I loved the building tension and the gradual unveiling of the main character's part in the story. The "super-zombie" sucked though.

The second film though, was absolute pap. I laughed out loud when everyone in the church was on the verge of being eaten by zombos and then Mila came through the 20 meter high stained glass windows riding a motorbike! Like FFS, how cliched and ridiculous can you get?!

I'm hoping that since the director of the first one is doing the new one it'll be something similar, but I have no faith since Hollywood is pulling the strings this time again.

I also thought the Dawn of the Dead remake was awesome. I have recently seen the original and I thought it was terrible and frankly, boring. The remake was full of tension, far more interesting chracters, and far more "horror". The zombies in the first one couldn't catch you unless you were a tortoise. How is that scary?

Ad critic: Sony's racially charged PSP ad [update 1]

Jul 5th 2006 5:57AM (Joystiq)
heh, I feel sorry for the black woman, whom Sony have managed to persuade everyone is a man.

The netherlands is so multi-ethnic that I doubt the people there would consider this racist. It wouldn't work in Britain though. We're very multi-ethnic nowadays but all the different ethnicities are unbelievably sensitive. As a white man in England I feel like I tread on eggshells whenever I leave the house.

Prey Demo now available on Xbox Live

Jul 3rd 2006 6:41AM (Joystiq)
I thought the voice acting was brilliant myself. And I really liked the way tommy talks, I'm so fed up with HL inspired silent heros.

The gameplay was brilliant, I smiled the whole way through :)

Was a bit disapointed by the graphics in places, it looks great for sure, but I thought Doom3 looked better. Also frankly I feel games like Hitman blood Money look better, even though they obviously don't have nearly as great tech, they spend more time on fancy textures that make a great impression to make up for the tech. Also the people in blood money look great, while the people in prey (Tommy/Jen) look a little dated.

But gameplay is important, and I'll be buying Prey for sure.

Major Nelson addresses XBLM's drought

Jun 29th 2006 5:43AM (Joystiq)
We'd all feel less "let down" about the Prey demo not shipping on time if MS or someone would just let us know why we're waiting with baited breath.

My work-mate who has an awesome PC has played the demo and lets me know how great it is every morning. Which means I'm getting to near-unbearable levels of hype here!

Glad Chromehounds demo came out totally unexpectedly though, that'll be fun tonight.

How Microsoft might lead in market share

Jun 26th 2006 7:32AM (Joystiq)
I recently bought a 360 after playing on my mates'. I'm well impressed, I've only ever bought Nintendo before, but I think the 360 is the best console I've ever owned.

And frankly this is soley due to Live. The arcade makes casual gaming easy and great fun. Demo downloads mean I can try out the arcade and full sized games easily and it's brilliant to have so many cool demos to try out. I've met loads of people on Live, and the fact that everyone has a headset makes it easy to have conversation, unlike typed conversations which are PCs mandate. Acheievements/gamer points give you a real incentive to race all the tracks/ find all the powerups, and increase the longevity of games by maybe twice. Reputation means that everyone seems to play fair and nicely, I played WoW for 6 months and eventually left because everyone was an arsehole, and that was because nobody was accountable for their actions.

I have to give credit where it is due, the 360 is brilliant fun and it is because of Live.

I'll buy a Wii though, and expect to prefer it ;)
