I don't think I've ever seen a more action packed 4 minutes. For once I was begging for NO MORE EXPLOSIONS ;_;

Portal 2 confirmed by Game Informer cover, due in 2010

So because there are other games coming out, I shouldn't feel disappointed? Say what?

Portal 2 confirmed by Game Informer cover, due in 2010

Mar 5th 2010 2:03PM (Joystiq)
I swear, it feels like I'm the only person disappointed by this, if it does turn out this ARG was just for Portal 2. I LOVED Portal, but by the end of it, it felt like it didn't need to go on any longer. If the gameplay is like the first it's just going to feel like more of the same, and with the gameplay of Portal I don't think that's a good thing like it is with other games. Plus, part of why Portal was good was the humour, and I don't they're going to be able to pull it off again. So yeah, feel free to downvote me an' stuff.

Portal fans find secret images, BBS phone number in radio messages

I'm gonna be very disappointed if it's Portal 2. Don't get me wrong, I loved Portal to bits but it doesn't need another game, I don't think there's anywhere for it to go. I'm fairly confident it's going to be Episode 3 however, and it's going to obviously feature Aperture Science heavily in the plot.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow producer striving for platform parity

The 360's GPU is more powerful at the end of the day. Ask anyone who's worked with both the PS3's and 360's GPUs and they'll tell you it's easier to get a better looking game out of the 360. Fillrate in particular is considerably better on the 360, and the 512 of RAM isn't split 50/50, the RAM can be used by the cpu and gpu whereas the PS3 has a fixed 256mb of RAM and 256mb of VRAM. Also, the 360 has EDRAM which is extremely fast to render into and technically has free 4x AA, although the reality of it is that an HD (1280 x 720+) 4x AA buffer won't fit into the 10mb of EDRAM so a technique called predicated tiling is used which in some cases can lead to the AA nearly being free (if the game is very much fillrate bound) or slow it down considerably (if it's vertex bound). Although the unified shader units tend to level out vertex/pixel load nicely. The 360 also has hierarchical Z buffering which improved overdraw performance massively.

Also, it is NOT DX10 compatible. It features some of the things you get with DX10 but it's certainly not actually DX10 compatible.

Digital Foundry analyzes Darksiders post-patch

No, that's not what you said and not how it works. The screen will always output an image at 60hz. You don't set vsync to a value. The framerate just drops to a divisible of the refresh rate and duplicates how ever many frames it needs to.

No that's not how screen tearing works. Your monitor/tv has a fixed refresh rate, and if the game doesn't perfectly match that you get tearing because the gpu will override a frame currently being rendered to the screen. So you get some of one frame and the rest of another. VSyncing fixes it by making sure the gpu will always wait till the tv/monitor has finished before writing another frame. But because of this, you are locked to a framerate that is divisible by your refresh rate. So a 60hz screen can display a game at 60fps, 30fps, 20fps, 15fps and so on. This is why VSync is BAD when you're dipping just below 60fps like in Darksiders because if you can't keep up with 60fps the gpu has no choice but to drop to 30fps. And that loss of framerate is a much bigger loss than what you gain by removing the tearing.

Great, they did exactly what I dreaded. Yay lets cut the game down from 50fps to 30fps. They could have at least made it an option like Bioshock. I'll just get ready to be downvoted again.
