Nov 18th 2006 3:01AM (Joystiq)Just what we need, instead of just complying and giving an accurate description of the criminals to the authorities later, you get a shootout, more people will get hurt, and random people driving by have a chance of getting shot as well.
What you fail to realize is that carrying guns will not end crime. Crime will happen no matter what, criminals will just start carrying bigger guns and wearing body armor. It is a lot easier for criminals to get automatic weapons than law abiding citizens, because the criminals don't have to do it legally.

Nov 14th 2006 5:57AM (Joystiq)I am confused by this statement. Where do you find a connection between the gameplay of the Wii and your opinion about TP. What does the fact that it is a hack and slash with graphics that don't compare to X360 or PS3 have to do with gameplay on the Wii? I will try and answer your question anyway though (and I hope you answer mine I just asked as well, I am truly curious).
I think what people see in the Wii is a new way to play games. Not necessarily better or improved, just different from what the other two developers are offering. The way video games are played really has not changed much since the 70s. It has always been all about a controller with joysticks and buttons, but the shape of the controller and number of joysticks and buttons has changed with the systems.
By adding motion sensing to the Wii controller, even if that motion often just replaces button pushing, Nintendo has opened up a new way of playing games. Sony added legitimacy to Nintendo's belief that motion sensing is a fun new way to play games when they added motion sensing capabilities to their own system. Unlike Nintendo, however, Sony did not put their full confidence in motion sensing and they left their controller design in a way that will allow them to continue developing games with a more conventional play method if the motion sensing fails.
Nintendo has shown that unconventional control methods can be successful with the DS and they hope that success can translate over to the Wii. On the other end of things, gamers have experienced how fun unconventional control methods can be when playing with the DS and they hope that fun can translate over to the Wii.
I am still on the fence about the whole motion sensing thing. The next couple months will show if Nintendo's gamble will pay off or if gamers will decide they prefer the tried and true button pushing control style for home consoles.

Nov 14th 2006 5:29AM (Joystiq)I am not defending or insulting anybody, just pointing out that financially, Sony is in the most danger this generation.
"So you believe if Sony's console doesn't pull through (which it will)"
You seem too sure of the success of the Playstaion 3. The Playstaion 3 looks like it will be a great system. I would like to buy one myself once the price drops to within my budget and there is a larger selection of games available for it, but the videogame hardware market is too dynamic to be sure of anything. The failure of the Dreamcast is still too fresh in my mind.
All three console manufacturers staying in the fight will only be a good thing, I don't wish failure on any of the three systems. The stronger and closer the competition is between the three current developers as well as any future developers who may jump into the competition the more likely the developers are to put out more innovative and higher quality products, and the more likely they are to push for better games for their systems.
Regardless of which system(s) you wish to purchase, you should wish success to all of them.

Nov 14th 2006 5:04AM (Joystiq)Even if the Wii does fail Nintendo will not become a software company. Nintendo still rules the handheld market and would have no reason to quit developing them.
In fact, when you think about it, Sony is actually the developer in the most danger this generation. If the Wii fails, Nintendo still has the DS to fall back on. If the 360 fails, Microsoft will barely notice the lost profits, especially with Vista and Office 2007 on the horizon.
If the PS3 fails, what does Sony have left? It's reputation as a consumer electronics manufacturer is not what it used to be, and with all the money they have spent on Blu-Ray, the PS3, and all the expenses their battery recall and rootkit fiasco and resulting lawsuits have built up, they will have a large hole to pull themselves out of if the PS3 fails to sell as well as they expect.

May 22nd 2006 6:24PM (Joystiq)After a couple hours of gaming, the dark glossy finish is downright nasty looking. In fact, I get more comments on now smudged the finish is than I do on how nice it looks.
Glossy black is great on stationary electronics, and even on the iPod because most people dont touch the surface much, but on something you are constantly touching and handling like a DS I will definately stay away from dark, glossy colors in the future.
