Swag Saturday: Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter [update]

More serious than a bunch of balloons in my cubicle.

Final Fight: Double Impact's PSN requirement is anti-sharing DRM

Apr 22nd 2010 7:15PM (Joystiq)
I love how this DRM is to prevent "game sharing" on a game that everyone and their mother has been able to download for the past decade. You would think that Capcom would offer a bit of good will to the people (like myself) that've actually purchased this, rather than deliberately making everything a hassle.

The whole mess just seems really counterproductive.

PS3 Final Fight: Double Impact requires PSN connection

Apr 22nd 2010 12:51AM (Joystiq)
I love Final Fight, I love Magic Sword, but I really regret this purchase. Not only is this stupid restriction in place, but private games are fundamentally broken. The second you start an online game, it bypasses the start screen and throws you into the game. This means that in order to invite a friend, you have to stand there and take a beating while you're sending out the message through the XMB. Amusingly, you can't even get the trophy for completing Final Fight in co-op in this manner because you're unable to start the game in co-op from the get-go. On top of that, voice chat barely works if it even decides to at all.

I was a huge fan of the cabinet + filters, but that's just about the only thing they got right here. The game needs a patch ASAP.

One million Xbox 360s sold down under

That Jamie Oliver one looks like the Mega Man 1 Box-art of consoles.

Roger Ebert's latest column posits 'games can never be art'

Apr 17th 2010 7:42PM (Joystiq)
I agree with him.

However, what's frustrating is that he's taking one of the most nebulous words in the English language and using it to poke at a big beehive of angry gamers. He's a very intelligent man, but he's really lacked common sense on his approach with this whole thing. It's like going into a comic store and shouting "Alan Moore is overrated"; Attacking a sacred cow of nerddom will end in more casualties than a religious war. The argument you bring to the table doesn't matter. You're going to lose.

Crytek boss: free game demos 'prohibitively expensive'

Apr 17th 2010 11:11AM (Joystiq)
You know what? Marketing? Ultimately expensive. We're going to start printing zines based on our games in the back of our old Windstar and let the gamer come to us. It'll benefit us all. Really.

By the way, all that money we're going to save by not marketing the game? We thought it'd ultimately benefit the consumer to keep the game at a $60 price point to ensure the utmost amount of quality.

Splinter Cell dev defends Ubisoft's 'always on' DRM

Apr 16th 2010 7:56PM (Joystiq)
Funnily enough, that didn't stop Capcom from recently doing something pretty similar with the PSN's Final Fight: Double Impact. A lot of people are buying it on 360 due to the frustration everyone's having with the PS3 one (can only play with a connection enabled etc).

PSN Thursday: Final Fight Double Impact, Sam and Max, Skate 3 demo

Not a huge fan of the mandatory connection to the PSN in order to play Final Fight. Eww.

Square Enix: Lara Croft brand for digital, Tomb Raider for retail

Apr 15th 2010 3:52PM (Joystiq)
Just so we're clear, I downvoted for the logic rather than the typo. It sounds like you don't like (and or suck at) Tomb Raider.
