Economies of scale don't apply to virtual worlds? {Joystiq}
Oct 2nd 2006 1:43PM Vlad is trying to be smarter than he is...again.
Brand recognition *alone* doesn't sell a product. Consumer faith in the *quality* and *durability* of a company's products builds brand *loyalty*. Once a company has convinced the masses that its product is "better" than the competition's, they can grow. Once they become as big as Nike, they can acquire materials, labor, and advertising for much cheaper on a large scale and thereby make more profit.
In a virtual world, however, quality and durability are removed from the equation as are manufacturing costs and payroll costs. Nike loses its biggest advantages.
You are wrong, again, Vlad. Big businesses hold no advantage other than brand recognition in Second Life. That isn’t enough to put other people out of business.
Cybering night elves is cheating, but will you stop? {Joystiq}
Oct 2nd 2006 1:00PM The comments should have stopped at #1. Destro nailed it. No one that gets *that* into a role playing game has a girlfriend (or, if they do, they won't for long).
So, don't worry about it. No one cares what you're doing with your life if you're an MMORPG player.
Picture it: special status for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii console owners {Joystiq}
Oct 2nd 2006 2:09AM Vlad + Graphs = Nonsense
The "First Paradox of Gaming" made sense (as simple a concept as it was), but the subsequent attempts at humor have fallen short.
In this latest voyage into the depths of uselessness, certain data points have been left out. For example, in the area where "A" overlaps "B", but *not* "C" there should be a value. Since "A" = PS3 owner and "B" = Xbox 360 owner, the overlap there could be a value of "redundancy." B + C = Bipolar ; C + A = Maximum Fun. Who knows? It doesn't matter.
In the previous iteration (Fanboys Fight Harder), Vlad was merely attacking Nintendo fans for no apparent reason (other than his flagrant bias) and with no supporting documentation. Also, the "graph" was invalid since the two axes did not correlate. Unless the point was, "The more extreme you are, the more of a fight you'll put up." In essence, the two axes were the *same* data set (hence the 1:1 ratio result in the graph). Useless.
I guess college isn't going so well for Vlad based on the intellect he has exhibited on this blog site.
*In Closing*
Vlad, all PC gaming sucks and the Wii will outsell its competition by a ratio of 4:1.
To prove it, I'll give you the same consideration you gave us in regards to "facts" and/or "data"...none.
But I’m right…because.
Women make majority of casual gamers {Joystiq}
Sep 29th 2006 7:40PM Books aren't culturally significant. What a niche market.
I take these surveys to mean that girls are more popular than guys and games are only casual if they're popular. Numbers confuse me.

Sep 29th 2006 7:35PM How do they look gay? Is it because you're attracted to them? That doesn't make *them* gay, just you.

Sep 29th 2006 5:00PM Sony fanboys are the most amusing of all the fanboys. It's as if the PS3 is some sort of *top secret* hardware "puzzle" that developers have to "figure out." "Once they crack the code and unlock the 'secret' power of the PS3, then we'll see how much the 360 sucks."
LMAO. They're identical systems. Just get over it. Neither is ultimately "better" than the other. They cost the same (when all is made equal) and produce the same graphics. The 360 currently has the edge with Live, but who can say PS3's online service won't be equal? We'll see.
*Bottom Line*
The hardware in the PS3 is not fashioned from space crystals and demon blood. It's just hardware. Made today with today's technological limitations.

You can say negative things about Nintendo...if it's warranted. They have done nothing wrong in this situation. You can call me a fanboy if you want, but I would react the same if you bashed Kaz for no apparent reason. It’s immature. A writer *can* be critical without being biased. It just takes tact.
If anyone is confused as to why Vlad has a chip on his shoulder, just read his bio:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/30/joystiq-blogger-bio-vladimir-cole/
He was a self-proclaimed Sega fanboy during the SNES days. Anyone who loved Sega back then, HAD to hate Nintendo (it was a requirement). Something tells me he hasn’t owned a Nintendo console since the NES.
If change the title and remove the paragraph demanding Nintendo do something "different" at launch, you’d have an unbiased post. Otherwise, it comes across as fanboy-bait dribble.

How can you say this:
"I'm decrying the lack of context. If you're going to cover "news" it's only responsible to provide context. The Gamespot story (and others) lack any context whatsoever."
When your posts contains THIS:
"Appreciated, yes, but not unique. C'mon guys, huddle around a conference table and dream up some crazy new PR stuntage for this holiday season."
???????
You ARE attacking the PR move in your post. Don't try and take the high road *after* posting something so fanboyish. Some of us are smart enough to recognize back-tracking when we see it.
So you don't like Nintendo. That's fine. Just try and be a bit more intelligent when attempting to bash them.
The title alone (Reggie horns in on Kaz and Bill's act) is childish (and lacks proper capitalization). If this post was TRULY about game sites blowing this news out of proportion, the title should reflect that.
Keep trying to defend your fanboyism by calling everyone else a fanboy. That's the way to win an argument...
Hey Nintendo, make the switch to paper boxes permanent! {Joystiq}
Sep 29th 2006 2:30AM Some of you people are so stupid it hurts my brain. Someone concerned about the environment is not a "hippie." They are "intelligent." They "read." They "comprehend" what they read. Anyone referring to them as "hippies" in an attempt to discredit what they're saying is IGNORANT (go look it up, you might not know what it *really* means).
It doesn't matter if you *believe* things to be a certain way; that doesn't make it true. Facts are facts. Plastic products are more harmful to the environment than paper. It doesn't matter how long you hold on to that plastic product. This is about *more* than just landfills. But that is just too much for some of you to wrap your brains around.
I don't know *why* I'm even going to post this link, since it's waaaaayyyy too much reading for most of you, but here it is anyway. Read the facts and get a little educated (even if you don't accept it, the facts are irrefutable).

Sep 28th 2006 7:21PM If I brought a display case to the clerk behind the counter and he handed me a DS cart sandwiched between two small pieces of corrugated cardboard held together with twine, It wouldn't matter to me (even if there weren't *pictures* on it, [gasp]).
Cases are for the ladies. Real men make their cartridges go commando.
