New ad campaign attempts to discourage use of 'gay' as disparagement

Aug 13th 2009 11:06AM (Joystiq)
"9 out of 10 LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) students report being harassed at school in the last year." Here's another statistic: 9 out of 10 students were harassed at school in the last year.

I don't think anybody is gay during their high school years, because it is an unhappy place for all. In fact, it would seem much more queer if someone didn't feel harassed at school.

PopCap confirms Plants vs Zombies vs XBLA

I want the equally stunning news that it is coming to the iPhone/iPod touch. This is the type of game that would work really well on the system.

ESA sues Chicago Transit Authority over advertising discrimination

Jul 22nd 2009 2:23PM (Joystiq)
Although the ESA might have a somewhat legitimate argument, it seems that the Supreme Court has allowed a governmental entity to have advertising space and limit what can be said there much moreso than it can limit what can be said in a public forum. It seems in this case, although the ESA will argue otherwise, banning violent video game ads is acceptable because the city has an interest in keeping controversial and disruptive advertising off of its buses. Regardless of whether you think an M-rated game SHOULD be more controversial than an R-rated movie, it is more controversial in our society.

The first amendment is not some blanket rule that allows anyone to say anything at anytime.

GameStop's employee checkout policy may be illegal [update]

Sorry, you did cite Kotaku. Still, I stand by my assertion that this is not news.

GameStop's employee checkout policy may be illegal [update]

Apr 10th 2009 11:26AM (Joystiq)
Is this really proper journalism? You contacted the FTC, which said absolutely nothing and did not imply that something wrong was going on. You can't say Gamestop is possibly breaking the law just based on your own opinion (well, you can, but it's not proper in a news story). Without some sort of outside source suggesting that the practice is illegal, stick to presenting the news or at least present commentary as such.

'Halo player' used as political smear

Oct 7th 2008 3:55PM (Joystiq)
Oh darn, I got called on my feeble attempt at political humor. And I thought I could get away with it on a video game website. Well, in the spirit of fairness, I'll just say:

Oh, so he's got the experience of Barack Obama, plus he's a gamer. He's got my vote!

Nintendo points don't transfer between Wii, DSi

I guess allowing it to be used either way would just make too much sense. Of course, this is Nintendo.

Rock Band AC/DC tracks can only be transfered once per disc

Oct 1st 2008 12:33PM (Joystiq)
I'm a little confused, can more than one person use the same copy of Rock Band, pay $5, and get songs for their respective copies of Rock Band 2? That seems to be the impression I get.

Frankly, I don't see a problem with this new game having a limit of only one transfer per disc. It seems fair. Why should you be allowed to buy a game and almost immediately resell it while effectively keeping the game on your system?

Nintendo Channel goes live on Wiis

May 7th 2008 9:17AM (Joystiq)
I am happy. It gave me a chance to try out CrossworDS. Even though it's DS games, it's nice that Nintendo is giving us a chance to try some games out at home.
