Epic: Consoles must be 'bleeding edge' in next generation

Mar 13th 2012 1:18PM (Joystiq)
Oh, give me a break. Console gaming has always been about getting as much as you can at an affordable price point. If you want bleeding edge, you've got to go PC. And that's just too darn expensive for most people to keep up with.

Look at what happened to the last "bleeding edge" console that debuted at $499 and $599. Until the price came down, it suffered mightily at the hands of its competitors, one of which was basically running last-gen hardware.

Now look, I'm all in favor of the consoles having some "oomph". But bleeding edge just isn't feasible, and pointing at Apple as a company that's going to take over console gaming if they don't is even more laughable.

Really, really looking forward to this game. And these guys are incredibly talented at what they do, crafting some awesome chiptunes. Heck, I still listen to this kind of stuff. May chiptunes never die.

If you ever think you're having problems, think of this guy. All of a sudden, not much compares.

Great story, and anything that helps our guys and gals get back home or recover from this kind of trauma is a good thing.

Remembering the best JRPG ever

Pure luck on my part on snagging it not too long after release. I'd just finished buying Tales of Destiny II, and didn't have a whole lot of money when we saw a used copy in Software, Etc. Much debate ensued, but my brother says the words, "But what if we never see it again?" More prescient words were never spoken, and we bought it on the spot.

As for the actual game, it's phenomenal once you get past the slow beginning areas. I initially had never pushed through because it's a little more spread out than Suikoden initially, but the game soon rises to heights unattained by its predecessor, although the original is worthy as well!

@Alexisonfire:
Hrm... Shining Force in real time? It's a bit of a RPG-RTS fusion, unless someone else can sum it up better.

@The Aquacharger: I think he means the 3D Classics version of the original Kid Icarus, not Uprising.

At least it's not Olbermann.

Seriously, though, no one should have any problem with this. I wouldn't go crazy if, say, MSNBC or CNN put up an app. I wouldn't use it, but there's no need to gripe mightily about it.

Oh. Internet. Right. Never mind. Carry on.

@Faenix: Unless, you know, you want to support indie developers. Just sayin'.
