Hooray! Sommers Back at the Helm for 'G.I. Joe 2'!

Aug 5th 2010 2:13PM (Cinematical)
No respect lost from me. I actually agree with your sentiments about Sommers 100%. I too really liked G.I. Joe, and the first Mummy, but really hated Mummy 2 and Van Helsing. I still have to see Deep Rising so I'll hold off my comments on that. But otherwise you hit the nail on the head.

I actually went into G.I. Joe thinking that it was going to be stupid and silly like another movie from last summer, *cough* Transformers 2 *cough*. However, while still retaining it's popcorn flick appeal, it managed to hold together a surprisingly concise story with characters you actually care about. Maybe it's just that anything Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in turn to gold. I don't know.

I too am looking forward to the sequel and hopefully more of JGL.

Leonardo DiCaprio as a Superhero? Who Should He Play?

Jun 20th 2010 7:48AM (Cinematical)
Leo is in my opinion too good an actor to sully his name and image with a superhero movie. He's come quite a long way from Jack in Titanic and he shouldn't ruin all the work he's put in to shake that image with a superhero movie...

...unless it were for Noland's batman, or a well adapted Superman, (most likely under Noland's supervision). The Riddler is a pretty good choice, but I was kinda hoping to see a different villain for the third Batman, so my vote for him would be to play Hush. But that's about it.

EMC exec sees iPad taking over... his house

Maybe that's the point that makes everyone like it so much. It's less complicated than a computer. And ask yourself, what do you spend 95% of your free time doing on your computer? Surfing the net right!? That's one of the best features of the iPad, because it's a fast, big touch screen. Plus even if you have to do word docs you can do them on Apple's Pages app or one of the other Word apps.

Just a thought.

Unimpressed by 3D? You Might Just Be Immune

I'm part of the group with perfectly normal peepers who feel that 3D is just a gimmick. A very expensive gimmick.

The Geek Beat: Hit-Girl Hysteria

Apr 14th 2010 12:58PM (Cinematical)
What an excellent article! I wholeheartedly agree with your point. Why can't girls (even young ones) be the bad asses. Why must they be sheltered and pushed toward Barbie and My Little Pony. It's cliched and stereotypical. Women fought long and hard for equal rights yet so many people, men and women alike, still prefer to keep females sheltered from the world for fear that they will get hurt.

Well, in "Kick-Ass" it is clear that Hit-Girl is the one inflicting the pain. Good for her and good for Millar who "went" there. Also, he did exercise some caution for this 11 year old girl when writing Kick-Ass, as the girl's father IS with her while they punish the bad guys.

One final thought. Why are so many people up in arms about the use of the C-word? You know that people in England and Australia throw it around like it's nothing. Another example of how so many Americans are uptight prudes. And if you do happen to find the word offensive, it's only because you choose to find it offensive. It's technically only offensive to you if someone directs it towards your person and means it in a negative manner.

Christopher Nolan Talks 'Superman' and 'Batman 3'

Mar 10th 2010 6:03PM (Cinematical)
I entirely agree. That is the character I was hoping they would use for the final film.

Few people realize that Bane is just as super intelligent as he is super strong. I say the best actor to play him would have to be Javier Bardem. Noland has a thing for good actors, and Bardem did win the Oscar for his portrayal of Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men. Plus that character has many similarities to Bane.

I say make Bane play mind games with Batman and truly test his limits, both physically and more importantly psychologically. That would be a fitting conclusion to a fantastic series.

It's Official: Next 'Spider-Man' Will Be 3-D

Feb 11th 2010 5:20PM (Cinematical)
While I'm excited for the Spider-Man reboot, namely because of the writer and director, I'm upset about it's decision to go 3D.

I agree that I think 3D is a gimmick and personally I think I takes away from the overall movie going experience.

I don't like 3D movies because, the glasses are uncomfortable, you are always aware that you are wearing them (at least I am), they darken your field of vision, and I'm constantly finding myself comparing what's on screen with and without my glasses to see just how much of the movie IS in 3D.

Spider-Man is and can be again a great franchise. I don't see why they have to mess it up by having the title character swing DIRECTLY into your face.

'Spider-Man 4' Still on Hold, Won't Make May 2011 Release?

Jan 7th 2010 9:49AM (Cinematical)
The last time we "trusted" Raimi he gave us Sandman as the villain and we all know how that turned out. If he went with just what the studio wanted the movie would have been more focused on just Goblin 2. Instead he did his villain (Sandman) the studio's villain (Green Goblin 2) and the fan villain (Venom) which resulted in a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

Also Sandman was a stupid, stupid villain choice. I'm going to have to side with the studio on this one and say Vulture is a stupid villain too, so listen to your Studio Raimi and ditch Vulture.
