Toyota FT-86 II restyling happened because of driver feedback

Mar 9th 2011 1:30PM (Autoblog)
Liked the old better, but come on toyota, just build this already.

As for it happening because of feedback, did you ask drivers this question? "Would you rather have the car sooner, or wait for a redesign"? I bet the answer wouldn't have been a redesign.

Kia making commercial out of Blake Griffin's weak sauce dunk [w/video]

Well, fans did vote for the winner via text. So, according to the NBA, yes, we are qualified to be the judges.

Disclaimer: I think fan vote is stupid, because as soon as Blake was in the finals I knew he was going to win because no one knew who McGhee was.

Report: Supreme Court clears path for additional seatbelt lawsuits

Feb 24th 2011 4:33PM (Autoblog)
This just allows lawsuits to happen, it doesn't mean everyone that sues will win. From what I have read, the ruling does not specifically relate to the validity of this case, just that it is now possible for a court to decide.

Saying this, I think suing over most of these issues would be a waste of resources on everyone's account, and the only people who will come out ahead are the lawyers.

Studs are legal in PA between November and April. My dad runs them every year.

Chrysler dealer service departments workin' for the weekend?

Dec 9th 2010 9:09AM (Autoblog)
I can't believe all service depts aren't open on Saturdays.

The one I bought my last car isn't.... so let me get this straight, they want me to take off half a day of work to get my oil changed because for some reason it takes 2 hours, or I could just stop at a 10 minute place on the way home from work and be done in 10 minutes. On a Saturday I could at least do a drop-off and just pick it up later so it doesn't ruin my whole day.

Volkswagen testing ice- and fog-free windshield technology

This would typically be referred to as a hard coat Low-E. While not as common as the soft coat Low-E you mention, it is used and has been around for a while.

I have worked around the soft a fair amount and know how easily it can scratch. I know the hard is much better, but I am not sure how it would stand up to the rigors of being on a car. I'm guessing VW is using a pretty standard hard coat to determine feasibility, and are working on tweaking it to be able to handle rocks, scrappers, wipers, and other standard occurrences.

In AB's defense, the article referenced does quote a VW engineer as saying they call it Low-E like they came up with it.

This type of Low-E is probably not what you would find it most homes or office buildings however. Most Low-E glass is a soft coat that scratches easily (applied in between panes in a window). It only makes sense that this would have to be applied to the outside. To do this, they would apply a Low-E hard coat. It's used in the glass industry (and VW definitely didn't come up with it), but only for special applications because 1) it is not as efficient as soft coat and 2) it is a more complicated process that costs more.

I was thinking it looked like a 2 door version of a Malibu Maxx.

I agree, the whole thing just looks awkward. I was a big fan of the original design. It was around for a long time and needed redone, but not like this.

Thanks for the reply... still useful, but not as useful as I had hoped. I'm going to try it out on my way home from work.
