Netgear's MoCA coax-ethernet adapter kit now available, explained with bizarre cartoon

Apr 23rd 2009 5:10PM (Engadget HD)
I picked a couple of these kits up 2 weeks ago. Each room in my house has 2 cat6's and 2 coax's, and all my cat6's are in use for my HDMI distribution, which made this product perfect for my needs. It's just funny that my TV goes over cat6 and my network goes over coax now. Completely backwards hehe.

News Corp hired hacker to pirate DISH Network access cards

Apr 25th 2008 12:45PM (Engadget)
the $20k cash payments were from canadian distributors for the original directv hacks. it was much more than 1 time payment, the industry was huge here in canada. BG on the payroll was because he was an unofficial NDS employee ensuring that future cards can not be hacked. the $40k that he got busted with was because after he began work with NDS he was still itching for tax free spending money. BG played both sides, gave up secrets to the hu card and helping develop a card programmer for dish cards. the programmer for dish cards was easy because the original overflow bug was already public info at that time. Once he got busted with the $40k thats when he became clean. I used to be deep in this business and know a lot of the details.

Guitar Hero: Beatles Edition a possibility

Mar 18th 2008 10:24AM (Joystiq)
Beatles songs wouldn't make sense in GH. Most of their songs are not exactly the most technical guitar songs out there, making them way too easy. It would be like playing the whole game in medium/hard.

Ask Engadget HD: What's the best universal remote out there?

Jan 23rd 2008 12:42PM (Engadget HD)
Anything Harmony/Logitech. My HT setup gets upgraded several times a year. My ex wife and ex gf's loves the Harmony remotes. I have it setup so each room has it's own remote, and the button layout is generally the same for every device. Media Center, HD PVR (from 2 diff providers), DVD, 360, PS3. Half the gear is in the basement feeding HD to all the rooms and TV's in the house. FFWD, 30 sec skip, replay, next chapter... it's all the same buttons for every device. Simple.

I've never had to deal with a "Honey, how do I fire up guitar hero?" phone call. I never get nagged for upgrading, because the end user experience is the same regardless. I have lots of friends where their wives refuse to let them upgrade to new gear because they have to relearn a bunch of stuff.

The only drawback is after the breakup, I'm stuck setting up a harmony remote at their place for their gear.
