Loyalists cry over Devil May Cry on Xbox 360

Mar 22nd 2007 10:31PM (Joystiq)
I wonder if these radicals realize just how much it costs it produce a video game, especially in this current generation. Not to mention the fact that the PS3 has the least installed user base of all the current consoles. It's simply the most prudent financial decision the company could make. These days it's getting more and more expensive to be a gamer, what with the cost of consoles alone, the inflated price of new next-gen games, and the cost of extra controllers and peripherals, owning just one console can be a $1000 + investment. Console exclusivity, specifically for the PS3 and the Xbox360, n essence alienates hundreds of thousands of potential buyers who own another system and don't want to invest another $1000 just for one game. the bottom line is the developer will win more fans and recoup more profits by going multi platform

SXSW: Getting Girls Into The Game: Designing and Marketing Games for Female Players

Mar 21st 2007 4:08PM (Joystiq)
The Female Gamer is interesting. I had a girlfriend a couple years back who loved video games, and especially ones that seem male oriented. She loved God of War, GTA: SA, Midnight Club, and a couple others. The real key to reachng that "female gamer" demographic is just to make a good friggin game. There are plenty of girls out there, of all levels of attractiveness, that play video games and love them, they're just generally less suceptable to hype and buy games that are proven top quality. I know a fair few girl gamers and they usually wait a couple months til the game is cheaper or used, and read all the reviews they can, then decide if it's worth the money.

Guitar Hero II's final boss revealed, all 11 solos of it

Sep 16th 2006 4:25AM (Joystiq)
I honestly don't believe that Hangar 18 is the boss song. It may be an extremely difficult song, but there is evidence to prove it isn't the boss. I got to watch that GT video before it was taken down, and after the guy said something about Hangar 18, he began to speak about a seemingly different song. He says "this one song" is really complex, basically a solo from front to back, and every instrument track is recorded twice and layered on top of eachother, etc. But the way that the GT video was set up implies that Hangar 18 is in fact not the boss song. what do you guys think?

A confirmed Guitar Hero 2 song lineup

Sep 4th 2006 10:46AM (Joystiq)
Kids theses days just have no appreciation for music. like i said before, open your freaking minds *points at jeff kid* you don't have to be that old to know this music. I turn 19 this month and i know every song on that list

My personal Request for guitar hero would definitely have to be "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles. It's a beautiful song and Eric Cplaton's guitar work is awesome.

A confirmed Guitar Hero 2 song lineup

The Pulp fiction theme is gonna be intense. I went around and got a hold of all of these songs here, looks to be one hell of a game, There's alot of bands with a wide range of songs from those bands. They're not the number one well known songs nessisarily, but they're really awesome songs. Like alot of people have heard I wanna rock and roll all night by kiss, but kids today who get this game and play strutter are gonna be like, this kicks ass. As for everyone that's complaining that "their songs aren't in the game" or the songlist sucks, 2 things. Harmonix has promised at least 40 licensed tracks, this is just over 20, we still have another 14 songs to see. And the second thing is that the game is trying to expose you and have you listen to cool music you may have never heard before, like the first one did. There's alot of different music I've got now because i heard it from the first one, so quit your whining and try to expand your mind a little bit.

Study: gamers make better surgeons ... duh!

May 25th 2006 1:29AM (Joystiq)
Being precise is awarded in pretty much every game i've ever heard of. Precise aiming gives you headshots, highscores, secret areas, etc. it shouldn't come as a surprise that one who has played games alot, especially through their lifetime, would have inadvertently developed a natural or instictual preciseness that would aid in the field of surgery.

PlayStation 3 in its final form [update 1]

May 25th 2006 1:14AM (Joystiq)
Everyone is all up in arms about the price of this system and about how Sony ripped off Nintendo so terribly that no one takes a step back to actually look at the machine. Keep in mind that this thing comes with a Blu-Ray player, which will most likely cost as much or more than the PS3 on it's own when it begins to hit store shelves. If Microsoft really wants to compete with the PS3, then they are going to have their HD-DVD periph $200 or less. The price for the PS3 is definitely justified considering how much brand spanking new technology is going in to it. As far as the controller goes, I would have liked to have seen something better from Sony than the same controller that's been around for more than half a decade with a few gimmicks in it. Sure, it's one of the most widely recognized designs in the gaming industry, but sometimes, shit needs to change. This is the next generationg of gaming we're heading in to here. Evolution is a requirement at this stage, and that includes the controllers. I do like the functionality of the gyroscopic sensor. It's something that will definitely add to gameplay in some games, but most definitely not every single one. I belive it would have been better, though, to stick with the critically shunned "boomerang." Sure, it's different. But none of us have ever held it, played a game with it, experienced it frist hand. How can we go around bashing something we've never experienced? I personally plan on owning all 3 of the systems by the end of next year, because each offers a different and exclusive experience; hopefully by the time I get the PS3 the controller will have been redesigned.
