Take-Two suing Apogee over unfinished Duke Nukem Forever

May 15th 2009 2:54AM (Joystiq)
Government needs to step in and bail out 3D Realms so America can finally see Duke Nukem Forever. If Obama cares anything about his legacy, he'll make this happen.

What defines a 'casual' game?

Apr 29th 2009 2:15AM (Joystiq)
To me, a casual game is something I can pop on for 15-20 minutes before I crash out in bed. I really don't have time to get too involved in games with heavy control
mechanics and deep plots. School and work have pretty much done away with that.

What makes a "casual game" to me?
- Simple or non-existant plot
- Easy to learn game play and controls
- The level of difficulty or mastery depends on how much time you want to invest it in. I don't think anyone would consider a game like "Tetris", "Galga", or "Donkey Kong" to be "hardcore games." However, if you play them like they are, they most certainly can be. (Guitar Hero, depending on how far you want to take it, can be casual or hardcore.)

If you have to play a game for more than 15 minutes to remember the controls and how the game handles.. I don't think you can call it a casual game.

Leisure Suit Larry creator wasn't consulted on latest game, points out horrible reviews

They took Leisure Suit Larry and marketed it towards the Spike TV / Maxim crowd. Way to ruin a franchise.

Explodemon! blows up on WiiWare, PSN in 2009

Yikes.. I hope they fix the dialogue.

"Please be bringing it on. I reduce you into brittleness fluid."

To be honest, I kind of like "Please be bringing it on" .. can be new meme?

Other than that, this game looks great. Old school badassery.

Author claims video games lead to finger deformities in children

Is that what that is? I always thought being double-jointed was cooler than that. And of all the places to be double-jointed. :\

Author claims video games lead to finger deformities in children

You know, I've always noticed that I have very strange thumbs. They curve outwards. Like I go to make a thumbs up, the thumb curves backwards. My friend has the same thing, but I didn't notice it until I mentioned it to him. I think he basically called 'em "gaming thumbs" .. thumbs the result of lots of hours of playing video games. Or maybe it's just some genetic trait we both share.

10 million accept Wii Play with Wiimote purchase

Mar 20th 2009 3:22PM (Joystiq)
Agreed. I've spent countless hours playing Tanks with my friend. Really reminds me of an old school NES-style game. Now, if the game was $50 by itself I may never have bought it. But honestly, I think I got my money's worth even if it had not included a controller.

I'm pretty sure that kid is eating a bag of Tim's Cascade chips. For that reason alone, he is now a bad ass in my eyes.

Indie iPhone dev makes half-a-mil, we question our career choices

Olympics licensing director jumps the gun, reveals new Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games

Feb 10th 2009 2:16PM (Joystiq)
This has the potential to be cool (no pun intended). Also, the Wii was pretty much made to simulate curling.

Seriously though, it seems like it could be a fun party game. The Summer Games were pretty cool but I think Winter Games would lend themselves to a more enjoyable gaming experience.
