Mar 29th 2009 3:49PM (Joystiq)Determining a sell out is a tricky business. I generally take it as an artist substantially altering their art or message solely for commercial acceptance and success. Did Metallica need to change over the years to continue selling albums and concert tickets? They could have just kept rehashing the "Metallica sound" for several more albums through the late 80s and into the 90s and sold a tremendous amount of albums. However, the qualities and characteristics that made these guys entertaining in the first place are the same ones that drive them to find new ways to express themselves. And by the way, has anyone here been to a boring Metallica show? These guys have always given more than your money's worth for a show.
It is hard for me to take shots at a band like Metallica that has been generally active for around 25 years now. It is only natural that they and their music has changed over that time span. I don't think it is rational to expect any band to both:
1) not develop or evolve
and
2) stay creatively interesting
I can't really think of any bands that have anything approaching Metallica's longevity that haven't either made dramatic changes over the years (U2, Radiohead) or basically became a cover band of their own work (Rolling Stones, The Who, AC/DC and many more).
You don't have to be "all in" with everything a band does, but I don't think you should turn your back forever on a group you obviously enjoyed at one point because you didn't like an album or two along the way. A compilation like this is a great opportunity to revisit some great memories in a wholly unique way and maybe even share them with some friends. You might even end up liking some of the newer stuff if you give it a chance.

Mar 9th 2009 10:35AM (Joystiq)There are two stories being told at two different times:
1) the humble beginnings and subsequent rise to power of Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando in The Godfather, Robert DeNiro in The Godfather II)
2) his son Michael (Al Pacino in both films) leading the family in the next generation after his consolidation of power following Vito's death
I don't know how closely the game will follow the film, but the cars are probably from Michael's era.
