Sep 14th 2008 2:28PM (Big Download)but I liked the way you had to swim around and fight off the
mish-mash of other organisms. It portrayed the primordial soup, so to speak, rather well, in my opinion.
I have mixed feelings about the creature phase. I would have much rather seen some more like the cell phase here, where you explore the environment at-will, rather than being tied to a nest and being the sole creature doing any exploring. This way, you could have either been a solitary animal, hunting around and then searching for a mate, or allow you to grow a pack organically. I presume that this was the original intention of the game, and that they had to scale it back to its current form for technical reasons. But your point about social creatures is certainly true as well. The game is much more suited to carnivorous creatures. I would have much rather seen the social game take place between members of your own species. Inter-species alliances/sociability doesn't make much sense; why are you making friends with your competitors when that doesn't help the expansion of your genes, and might actually hurt it? Basically, the creature creator saves the creature phase; it's an absolute blast to watch your creature evolve, even if any evolutionary constraints are entirely self-imposed (other than herbivore/omnivore/carnivore).
