Thanks!

National Science Foundation to fund World of Warcraft study

Sure, why not? It could end up being a pretty interesting sociological study. It might reach no particularly deep conclusion, but that's the risk you take when funding scientific research.

10 Reasons to Avoid Spore

I actually enjoyed the cell phase quite a bit. It wasn't perfect,
but I liked the way you had to swim around and fight off the
mish-mash of other organisms. It portrayed the primordial soup, so to speak, rather well, in my opinion.

I have mixed feelings about the creature phase. I would have much rather seen some more like the cell phase here, where you explore the environment at-will, rather than being tied to a nest and being the sole creature doing any exploring. This way, you could have either been a solitary animal, hunting around and then searching for a mate, or allow you to grow a pack organically. I presume that this was the original intention of the game, and that they had to scale it back to its current form for technical reasons. But your point about social creatures is certainly true as well. The game is much more suited to carnivorous creatures. I would have much rather seen the social game take place between members of your own species. Inter-species alliances/sociability doesn't make much sense; why are you making friends with your competitors when that doesn't help the expansion of your genes, and might actually hurt it? Basically, the creature creator saves the creature phase; it's an absolute blast to watch your creature evolve, even if any evolutionary constraints are entirely self-imposed (other than herbivore/omnivore/carnivore).

The link you reference is for an outdated list. That covers the 2005 Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Corporate Equality Index (CEI).

The 2008 CEI includes 195 Corporations that rate 100%, and can be found here: http://www.hrc.org/issues/workplace/cei.htm

Joystiq interview: Ironclad talks 4X strategy with Sins of a Solar Empire

Feb 2nd 2008 8:52AM (Joystiq)
Thanks Jason.

More coverage of the less mainstream games is greatly appreciated. Stardock is a great publisher/developer, and I'm expecting good things from Ironclad with Sins of a Solar Empire.
