Star Trek co-op game sets phasers for 2012

Jun 3rd 2011 10:48AM (Joystiq)
The concept art above is reminiscent of that Danny Boyle film, Sunshine. Though I'd rather see Capt. Kirk keep Chris Pine's likeness rather than Cillian Murphy's. Cillian's face has this undercooked look about it that's always unnerved me.

CD Projekt on The Witcher 2's sales, update and bringing the game to Xbox 360

... In *that* frame of mind, rather.

CD Projekt on The Witcher 2's sales, update and bringing the game to Xbox 360

While Gop insists sales are "really good" so far, it feels like this week's $10 price cut came awful quick. Could be a pure marketing move, sure. But to introduce a product and already reduce its price two or three weeks later seems hasty. From a merchandising perspective, that just trains your customers to expect a price reduction before they buy. Witcher 2 is still too new to want your customers in frame of mind.

Penny Arcade's 'New Kid' strip to be adapted to film by Paramount

Jun 3rd 2011 12:52AM (Joystiq)
Agreed: Automata is a stunning tale. When science fiction writers tell a story involving robotics and A.I., there's always the ulterior motive of exposing humans at their best and, especially, at their worst.

New Kid is a much simpler premise; much more adaptable. Remove the spaceship and three-quarters-Earth gravity, and you're simply left with a father and son tale about a dad following the jobs in a Great Recession, and a kid that will no doubt confront bullying. Two potentially dull but relevant topics.

Now a movie adaptation of Axe Cop? That'd be surreal.

The Witcher 2 casting spells on Xbox 360 by the end of 2011

Now it's going to be a knock-down-drag-out between Witcher 2 and Skyrim at the end of the year. Wish I could call one or the other a no-brainer, but that won't be the case.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge review: A streamlined slaughter

Jun 2nd 2011 1:49AM (Joystiq)
I want to get some time on the couch with this one. InXile put it together which, I believe, is a small team -- maybe less than 25 people, and led by Brian "Planescape Torment" Fargo. Still, the budget couldn't have been spectacular. In that light, I might cut the graphics some slack. A reasonable amount of print ads backed Hunted, too, but it's strange they didn't get review copies out to gaming sites sooner. They may have anticipated a split opinion among reviewers.

Dead Island box art needs longer incubation

Your guys' cover art, Mr. Sliwinski, is troubling. I mean that as a compliment, of course.

L.A. Noire review: Go with your gut

May 27th 2011 4:34PM (Joystiq)
Being keelhauled into saying things I wouldn't say (though Phelps would) and things I wouldn't do (though Phelps does) and conclusions I wouldn't draw against suspects I wouldn't convict on evidence I wouldn't throw at them ... is messing with my head as a gamer. I'm approaching this game the wrong way. I think I fell under the illusion that I'd make more of a difference. Still. Cool story, bro.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations concludes Ezio's story this November

May 27th 2011 4:18PM (Joystiq)
Interesting how many people are tired of Ezio and/or Altair but are still excited for successive installments of AC. That says a lot about Ubisoft's world-building abilities. It also says a lot (in a bad way) about their character building.
