Resident Evil 5 producer wants more Evil on Wii

Feb 14th 2009 12:53PM (Joystiq)
Having RE4 controls wouldn't make it wholly original.

Hell, being a RE game takes away any chance of the game being entirely original.

Viacom: Rock Band 2 sales less than expected, but still solid

For the game developers/publishers, or artists/labels?

New York bill could put violent games under lock and key

Jan 29th 2009 2:34AM (Joystiq)
I can see retailer locking up games for the sake of security. A fifty dollar game vs a fifteen dollar movie.

What I don't get is locking up ANY retail available game vs say, Saw or A Clockwork Orange, for the sake of any 'children's safety' issues.

I can walk into likely any Target, and find all the R-Rated films in one set of open isles, and directly across, ALL the videogames (except the $20 older games) locked behind glass.

Sony: PS2 remains 'important,' touts 2009 and 2010 lineup

Jan 14th 2009 2:13PM (Joystiq)
Can you really call the PSX a 10 yr console though? Granted, from what I read on Wikipedia, it released 12/3/94 in Japan, 9/9/95 in the US, but can you recall what games were being released (at all) for the PSX in 2004-2005, vs the likelihood we'll still have some notable game releases (a low standard given the PSX 2002-on releases) on the PS2 in 2010?

Sony: PS2 remains 'important,' touts 2009 and 2010 lineup

I'll bet you the PS2 is going to be Sony's only true 10 yr console. Not to troll, though.

Maybe just a bit.

I'm just surprised that any console has lasted this long on the market.

Official: UGO buys 1UP, EGM dead [update]

Jan 7th 2009 8:47PM (Joystiq)
I used to read EGM, but I found the amount of, and intrusive nature of their ads annoying (I don't like half page ads during the reviews) in comparison to what I began seeing in EDGE.

EDGE may be the more expensive read (although, we're only talking two dollars), but the content is much better, with more provocative articles.

Course, a major print like EGM going down doesn't bode well for other print if the trend picks up steam.

Wii Fit helping UK amputees lead a balanced life

Jan 7th 2009 1:09AM (Joystiq)
I know that anyone with enough know-how (not as much these days with works like glovepie etc) can operate the wiimote and nunchuck on their PCs for games or more specifically build in-house applications, and I'll bet (I haven't looked into it yet) that the balance board is not much different in that regard.

Has there been much development for software on PCs that use the wiimote et. al. for use in hospitals and schools? Have hospitals and schools begun using the wiimote en masse, or are we discussing what amount to isolated incidences (not to diminish the idea)? Do those who use Nintendo's software prefer the appeal of the company's new design philosophy vs what may or can be made by third parties?

Am I missing the basic point, that anybody can pick up a copy of Wii Fit, or a Wii w/ Wii Sports and apply it to their place of work to help others, as opposed to roping in the corporate types who are more concerned with widespread use, licenses, budgeting in the devices etc, as opposed to those who enjoy the satisfaction of helping others by themselves and sharing the idea on a grass roots level?

Nielsen: 2008's most played console was ... PS2

PS2's still king, baby!

Passage now passes time on iPhone

Dec 26th 2008 1:51AM (Joystiq)
Art to me is like a box of chocolates. More specifically however, a Christmas advent calender.

I see no point wasting my time anticipating the upcoming amendment to the plot of something (the story of the birth of Christ, or in art's case, life and the universe) when the story already exists in a more readily available form (eg The Bible, or in art's case, the world in actuality). Getting a candy for each step of the way (to 'get' the message of a film, poem, novel what have you) is a waste of time and effort.

Eventually, am I looking forward to that piece of candy, or the story being told? Art like Passage kills my attention span. I may like the quaint message in its 5 minute packaging, but it's not satisfying.

A lot of art to me is a diet of candy from an advent calender. Interesting story, but I'm better off reading from its primary source (The Bible, or in art's case, life itself) than to get drip fed candy like an ape learning sign language.

Branching Dialogue: R.I.P. Death

Dec 24th 2008 4:14AM (Joystiq)
What's the difference between the game world's indifference to your death, vs. never being able to die in the first place?

Both seem to avoid accepting death as a reality.
