What motion controls could do for JRPGs

Dec 19th 2011 8:23AM (Joystiq)
@FinalFantasyXIIIsucks On your first point, I agree. The very first flight you take in the game, where you have to chase down the bird with the statue, I actually had to set the nunchuck down on the coffee table and keep telling myself "the nunchuck doesn't do anything". I've played several of the games where you fly something with motionplus, and they all seem to have the same control layout - and it's nothing like any motions you would make to control any other controllable flying thing man has ever made. You get used to it after awhile, but it's not intuitive - like remember the first time you played super mario bros, and had to educate your thumbs that 'B' was run and 'A' was jump?

@The Blank Mage Returns

I can confirm this is true. I only ever remember playing it on an emulator, but, lo and behold, here the cartridge is! This was the one you could do some crazy stuff and get an upgrade that let you throw fireballs like Ryu, right?

Christie creates baffling 3D HD CAVE 'visual environment,' or your average Halo display in 2020

I went to college at The University of Illinois (in Urbana), graduated in 2002, and had the opportunity to give tours of their CAVE installation. When I was there, they had 4 sides (3 walls and the floor). I had the opportunity, after much luck and some cajoling, to play a version of Quake II that was ported to the SGI cluster that ran the thing (by some of the grad students, in their spare time). It was AWESOME. The only problem was I kept running into the walls while trying to strafe with my feet instead of with the controller.

Wii Menu 4.3 brings performance upgrades, removes homebrew

Yep, but there's plenty of ways around those upgrades if, for some reason, you wanted to not perform them.

Is it just me, or does the name "Warren Spector" sound like the alter-ego of some evil super-villain?

@dscott23: Amen! I don't know where my Pre and I would be without the awesome homebrew scene.

Didn't the jailbreak/homebrew community have an app that allowed you to enable video-out per application? I remember seeing a video of someone displaying the springboard from his iPod Touch on a TV. I even vaguely remember having it installed on mine, at one point.

Also, there's a VNC Server that runs on the iPhone/iTouch that you could hack onto the iPad, and use that with a projector-connected computer.

Try MM 2. I could beat that game in my sleep. First game I ever used a Nintendo Power strategy guide for (back when I had a subscription, and they included the strategy guides in their magazine.)

Is this redirecting to localhost for anyone else? How screwed is my company's DNS setup right now?

uTorrent downloads torrents 16% faster than Vuze/Azureus

As soon as uTorrent is available for Linux, I'm game.

Also, I prefer Vuze's handling of RSS feeds.
