Isn't this called 'bubble memory', except on a smaller scale?
The article itself doesn't seem to mention what influences are behind this 'invention', but based on the details mentioned, it seems they're scaling down traditional bubble memory to fit on a silicon chip. Not a bad idea, though.
This is definitely one of the best game-inspired videos I have ever seen. Excellent script, execution, camera work and humour.
Speaking as someone who has really enjoyed playing Goldeneye (even though I usually play RPGs), I must say that this video really made me smile (and laugh!).
"Does Wii use a powerbrick, or a standard AC Adapter?"
Some pics shown earlier on Joystiq or similar of the Wii had a GameCube-like 'powerbrick' in the background. This means that the Wii's external power adapter will be about the same size as the GC's.
That said, IMO size matters. I don't want to fill up the space I have below my TV. Older consoles (NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, etc.) were a lot smaller than the MSFT's and Sony's (initial) offerings, so it's nice to see Nintendo sticking to smaller consoles which can be taken to, and set up everywhere.
