Halo Anniversary adding 'Analyze Mode' with Kinect [update]

Oct 15th 2011 10:20PM (Joystiq)
I wonder why it is so hard to incorporate voice recognition via headset. I guess that there are WAY more headsets than kinects out there and it would add at least a little value to the game for those without the kinect.

Rainbow Six 3 for the original Xbox had some awesome headset support - when you had the Communicator on, you got squaddie chatter or mission orders directly piped into your ear as opposed through the TV or speakers and you could even call "go go go" to activate breaches. Small touch, made the game absolutely awesome.

Fusion: Genesis is an XBLA twin-stick MMO from ex-Rare devs

So, and when will be announced that the game uses a F2P business model where you have to spend your hard-earned MSP on weapon upgrades or ship colors? Call my a cynic, but there has to be a catch, especially looking back on how misleading the Crimson Alliance trial/full version was labelled.

Catwoman unlocked in Batman: Arkham City through online pass

Oct 13th 2011 8:17PM (Joystiq)
@Alex Oglitchkin For a person who buys games new, the online pass is the minor evil. And since i usually don't trade in my games, I actually can live with it, apart from the bit where I have to spend my quality time squinting at badly printed unlock key sequences instead of playing the actual game.

And if the publishers need to squeeze all that extra money out of the customers to stay afloat, it's about damn time they trim down the fat. Anyone read the credits sequence of any given AAA-game lately? Two dozen people doing the creative work, easily thrice the number doing management duties. It's not that EA and ActiBlizzard are in danger of going into the red actually, it's only the fear of looking bad on Wall Street or losing investor cred. I bet you any kind of money that EA or Acti have more than enough operating capital to stay afloat even without in-game adverts, ridiculous DLC schemes and whatnot. It's just about getting EVEN MORE. I'm the last person on earth to deny a business it's right to make money, but there are limits. And in my book, we're already past that limit and still accelerating. I don't mind paying 50 Euros for a new game. But I DO mind paying 50 Euros for a game where at least a third ist obviously cut from it to sell it piecemeal afterwards. I DO mind that my 50 Euro purchase does not give me access to all the game has to offer, no, I'm supposed to shell out another 40 Euros for a season pass and another 40 for weapon skins (haha!). Not happening.

And there is enough evidence available that shows that a good game will sell like mad, even without five different studios sharing assets. Minecraft. Nuff said.

Catwoman unlocked in Batman: Arkham City through online pass

*sigh*
I'm starting to seriously HATE the current console generations. Online-Pass this, DLC that, Season Pass blah blah blah. Can't you just sell games like... in one piece anymore, oh greedy publishers? Really, it's getting totally ridiculous.

Ridge Racer Unbounded: Crashing through expectations

Oct 13th 2011 5:44PM (Joystiq)
I don't know if I should cry or rage. I don't mind "classic" Ridge Racer with new tracks or slight improvements (like car customization in RR7). I would love to play another "classic" Ace Combat in their fictious world with HUGE air carriers. I won't mind another Front Mission strategy-RPG monolith.

But for some totally insane reason every big japanese franchise seems to be farmed out to a western developer that tries to "improve" on that, usually by adding more 'splosions, more gore or other totally unneccessary features. I didn't want a Silent Hill with SAW influences (hello, Homecoming), neither did I want a Front Mission-themed TPS (the on-foot segments were god-awful and the last boss is downright broken) or YET ANOTHER semi-realistic military wank story (Ace Combat Assault Horizon.

By farming out into the west and the desperate attempts to "westernize" their brands, Konami and Namco are eliminating why I liked those franchises in the first place, their uniqueness.

Gears of War 3 stats show shotgun domination; sawed-off weakened

Easy way to combat shotty frustration: It's called "playing Horde".

Gears of War 3 'Horde Command Pack' gets defensive Nov. 1 [update]

Oct 4th 2011 5:41PM (Joystiq)
Wait, wait wait... Isn't the Season Pass supposed to slash the price of the DLC pack by 33%? That would mean either:

- The price Joystiq gave (800 MSP) is the already slashed price (which would mean the DLC costs the now standard 1200)

- or Epic/MS are not jumping on the CoD bandwagon, which would mean that the price for the DLC pack would be 560 points for people who bought the season pass.

Only then it would raise the point that the season pass is nearly fraudulous. It's 3400 MSP, and even with an asking price of 1200 MSP per DLC pack, you'd only save 1600 points. So, instead of 4800 MSP for all 4 DLC without season pass, you paid (4800-1600) + 3400 MSP, = 6600 MSP. No saving whatsoever. But you got a fancy weapon skin.

Rage's Wolfenstein room is filled with pixelated treasure

That just made my day. So awesome.

Gotta play Wolf 3D now, it brings back joyous memories...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 has a boss pre-order bonus

Oct 3rd 2011 8:10PM (Joystiq)
@BFBeast666 I'll go for the next Dragon Quests instead. Got to the series via IX, I play VI on my DS right now and I'm more psyched for X than for any other JRPG at the moment (Xenoblade excluded, it's already in my Wii).

Final Fantasy XIII-2 has a boss pre-order bonus

Oct 3rd 2011 8:07PM (Joystiq)
FFXIII-2 will be a bargain buy, if ever. I'm a HUGE FF fan, having played nearly every iteration except III and the spin-offs. But XIII was not the right game for me. The characters didn't click with me, the levelling system was rather meh and the last dungeon killed my interest in it completely.

And from what I've seen of XIII-2 so far, it will be even WORSE. Not only will there be much more "yadda, yadda, yadda overblown drama", but they had to add QTEs to the battle system? Thanks, but no thanks.
