US Army hosts first ever Halo 3 Xbox Live tournament

Jan 10th 2008 11:50AM (Joystiq)
Just slightly a bad taste?? They have 4 videos of sniper spots in the game all hosted by an Army sniper, their fifth video is about "sniper school" showing a sniper get in a ghillie suit and squeeze a trigger at the end of the video. (The only way to see what it looks like is to enlist.) Not only that but you can download a theme with a H3 logo in the bottom left corner 3 pics of army snipers with an Army logo in the top right.

The only possible reason for the investment is recruitment via video games furthering the stereotypes people look for in games. I mean it makes perfect sense that since we love fragging people online we should learn to do it to real people in the army for a stupid f..(sorry other blog) war.

Anyways I think this is a bad move by MS and Bungie to accept this ad blitz. Next if someone can advertise on behalf of criminals that escape the law to sponsor the upcoming GTIV multiplayer we could bring more games into the real world.

PS1/PS2 graphics look like crap on PS3

Dec 13th 2006 2:07PM (Joystiq)
@ - Regula Oblique - "List all of the xbox 360's problems since launch and I bet that list will be longer."

Its not a matter of competition of the problems of each console's launch. I know the 360 had a lot of issues at launch (I consider myself luck to have a unit from day 1 that has only crashed 5 times 4 of which were while playing the shisty Madden 06)
The main issue for me is that the plethora of problems that have existed on the new systems that the creators have such a hard time admitting that problems exist. I'm sure over the next year or so many of these issues will be fixed. But so what?
When anyone buys a new system they should get not only good hardware but a decent operating system to go along with it. A system that works with what is required of a mass marketed machine: Working with all HDTVs like a Sony's more expensive BluRay players or Tivo. Designing an emulator for last gen games that is superior or equal with open source technology or swallowing the bullet and hiring the people in the field that want to expand into. But maybe I expect to much I mean Sony and MS do have issues in all of their departments Viaos burn and Windows has fought for decades to work as well as it can today.

PS1/PS2 graphics look like crap on PS3

Dec 13th 2006 1:06PM (Joystiq)
This is a major problem. Sony offered more options for back compat on the PS2 than on the PS3. The problem is they rushed the shipment of this new system way too quickly. the number of problems plaguing the system and the denial of their existence by Sony really makes you realize why they are a company that had to recall millions of products over the past decade. Everyone talks about the potential of the PS3 in a year or two, however they really don't have anything working for them right now. They have ONE game worth playing that you cant get the same experience on the 360 for now. They have problems displaying on certain HDTVs including resolution problems and color feed back that can cause two color lines to scroll through the screen (not talked about much but since my HDTV is affected I know from talking to their "tech support" that it is a known issue beyond the recent Color update that only affects non HD connections.) Back to the problems, the new 360 wireless headset is having issues hooking up with older or damaged controllers in mix, but the PS3 cant eve maintain the connection to its controllers during certain games. (Madden seems to be the worst for this.) But hey at least they came out with an update to give you more options for Blu-Ray playback last week... thats why you bought the system right?

Xbox BC not a priority, says Moore

Jun 1st 2006 1:52PM (Joystiq)
I find it interesting that (not that I would ever do this) with the recent firmware hack for the 360 all XBox games become instantly playable. Maybe MS should invest about 1000 us to learn from the creators of the hack and give up a little on "emulating" so the security settings remain intact.
