I also don't remember them promising any sort of DLC. I could be wrong, but if anything I recall them giving a solid "maybe." Turns out it wasn't meant to be.
Sometimes games are like chewing gum, you get a burst of flavor and enjoyment while you chew for a while, then it gets stale and you move on. Anyone still bitching about no maps needs to spit out their gum.
