Hey Nintendo, make the switch to paper boxes permanent!

Sep 29th 2006 9:04AM (Joystiq)
Hello People.

This is a non-issue!

The DS plastic cases are recyclable! Just recycle them when you are done with them. Problem solved.
They don't have to end up in a landfill. They don't have to pollute the earth. They don't have to take hundreds of years to decompose. Someone already solved this problem when they decided to make the cases out of recycled plastic. Just do your part and recycle it rather than throwing it away.

Quit with the hippie calling and quit with the melodrama. This is not a problem.

10 MPG SUVs are the problem. Recycle your DS case, and go by a hybrid. Thats a hellava lot better than worring about a plastic that is already recyclable.

Good grief, some people just want to argue.

Hey Nintendo, make the switch to paper boxes permanent!

Am I the only one who ever removed the paper art from my DS case to see if it was made of recyclable plastic? It would seem so.

I like the plastic DS cases. I will keep them a long time. And when I'm done with it, I will recycle it just like I do all my plastic.

This is a no-brainer folks. Just recycle your plastics, and paper, and card board. It takes like 5 times the energy to produce new materials (whether they be plaster or paper or metal) than it does to recycle old to make new.

These plastic cases are only bad for the environment if we don't recycle them.

New Wii features: Message Board & Play History

Sep 27th 2006 6:21PM (Joystiq)
I think these features sound great. Yes, they sound similar to what MS is doing on XBL. To that I say, wonderful! I was worried that Nintendos only, being free, would not be a robust or feature rich as Live. Most likely it won't be, but this news increases my confidence is a service that we don't know a lot about.
If they have per-game rankings, with hours played and such, that can only enhance their other offerings. Thinking back to all the time I've spent on my current gen consoles, I would love to have access to how many hours I've played on what games and in total. I think that would be a great feature to be able to track, particulary if you can track it separately for each console user. When I first saw the Mii channel, I thought it looked pretty cheesy, but if this integrates into a competant profile system with leaderboards and all that, then I'm all for it. As for the collection of information, it sounds more like they are simply collecting your play stats which is pretty much what XBL does. In either case, I think it will be beneficial to games if MS and Nintendo can get electronic feedback on what gamers like. Hopefully it won't turn into games reporting how long you viewed the "coca-cola banner" to generate in game ad revenue.

Uwe Boll does something awful to another critic

Sep 25th 2006 11:37PM (Joystiq)
I'm no fan of Uwe's movies and I don't agree with some of his rumored tactics, but I certainly agree with this whole boxing charade.

I have read alot of online reviews of his movies simply because I follow alot of gaming related media. I must say, the critics are absolutely merciless. Its ok to be critical of a bad movie. Uwes in particular open themselves to a lot of criticism.

However, many times, these blogger-come-critics take it too far. I think if a reviewer makes a comment like "this movie is so bad Uwe should get his ass kicked", or "If I ever see Uwe Boll in person, I'll punch him in the face!", or something along those lines, they are going too far. Ok, so the guy makes bad movies. So what. So does Michael Bay but millions of people go to them every other year. The thing is, it seems that "Uwe getting his ass kicked" is getting to be the en vogue reaction to many of his movies. That being the case, I say Uwe has every right to make such a challenge, PR stunt or not.

Bloggers, (movie reviewing bloggers in particular) are always pushing to be taken more seriously, yet they often do or say things that can't be taken seriously. Well, it seems someone took them seriously. His name is Uwe Boll.

How much time are you getting out of your games?

Sep 25th 2006 6:10PM (Joystiq)
All this is subjective of course, but I personally feel that 15-30 hours is plenty. Less time for really action heavy games and more for puzzlers/RPG's.

Mark,

No apologies necessary. Besides, your post shows you and I are in complete agreement. I'm just funnier. ;)

Hey Mark,

Please do me the same courtesy, paying special attention to the very last line.

Analysts criticize Japanese PS3 price drop

Sep 23rd 2006 8:23AM (Joystiq)
"the Japanese love new technology. the Wii has a new interface, but the technology behind it is familiar. when the Japanese gamer gets tired of their new Wii, and when they see those purty PS3 games playing on their buddies system and HDTV, or in store displays when they're purchasing a new DS or Wii game, they'll start to think that there's something to all that High Def babble, and they will genuinely be impressed."

This is the same nonsense the PSP fanboys spewed just prior to the PSP launch. It was laughable then and its laughable now. Don't forget the HDTV penetration in Japan is even lower than in the US. Yes, japan will buy the PS3 but not for the reasons you mention.
And the Wii will be a factor, just like the DS is hurting the PS3 in japan. Unfortunately, there is a finite amount of mindshare available in any market. Right now, the DS has the lions share in the Japanese market and we are seeing that translate into sales. As long as the games are there, the Wii could hurt the PS3 mindshare for sure. Of course both systems will sell out at launch, but its in the coming year where things will get sorted and we'll have a better idea of long term results.

"the price change does not indicate much self confidence on sonys part, "

Apparently you have missed some illuminating posts earlier in the month concerning this very topic. The reality is that Sony lowering the price at the last second shows an INCREASE in confidence in their product. Don't you see? Subsidizing your console shows you KNOW it will sell. What are you thinking? Now, if they were truly LOSING confidence, they would be RAISING the price. Get it? Yeah, me neither.

Sep 22nd 2006 11:14PM (Joystiq)
As usual, Ludwig makes these horribly boring and predictable sales numbers a post worth reading.
